A computer based system for taking the physical inventory of liquids dispensed in full and partially full containers. A database stores images of containers and their associated volumes. The containers to be inventoried are identified by a user and input to a computer at a graphical user interface (GUI) input/output. A computer causes the display of an image of the container and a sliding level indicator at the GUI. The level indicator is slidable along the image. The computer calculates a volume of liquid remaining in the container as a function of the position of the level indicator along the image of the container.

1. A method for taking an inventory of containers for liquid comprising the steps of: providing a portable computing device having a graphical user interface;entering a number of filled containers at the portable computing device;providing an actual digital image of a container corresponding to an open container at the graphical user interface, the actual digital image including an identification characteristic;providing a sliding member at the graphical user interface;sliding the sliding member along the actual digital image of the open container relative to the identifying characteristic, to a position along the open container corresponding to an amount of liquid remaining in an actual container to be inventoried; andcalculating a volume of remaining liquid in the open container as a function of the position of the graphical user interface slider along the actual digital image. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the identifying characteristic of the open container includes a label associated with the open container. 3. The method of claim 1, further providing a server, the portable computing device transmitting at least the graphical user interface position to the server, the server calculating the volume of liquid remaining in the actual open container. 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the server aggregates the volume of liquid remaining in the open container with the volume of liquid in the number of filled containers to calculate a total liquid inventory. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein an establishment to be inventoried is comprised of sections, at least one section including one or more subsections, and the method further comprising the step of: inputting each sub-section of a section within an establishment into the portable computing device;inputting each sub-section of each section into the portable computing device; andinputting each container of liquid located in each sub-section of each section into the portable computing device, and storing a respective location of each container as a function of the sub-section, the section, and the establishment. 6. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of providing a server, the server storing a library of actual digital images of two or more containers for liquid; forwarding a list of the digital images to the portable computing device, and selecting a container to be associated with a section by selecting the container from the list at the portable computing device. 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of providing a second portable computing device having a graphical user interface and a second user providing a portable computing device having a graphical user interface; providing an actual digital image of a second container corresponding to a second open container at the graphical user interface of the second portable computing device, the actual digital image including an identifying characteristic;providing a sliding member at the graphical user interface of the second portable computing device;sliding the sliding member of the second portable computing device along the image of the second open container relative to the identifying characteristic, to a position along the open container corresponding to an amount of liquid remaining in the actual container;calculating a volume of remaining liquid in the second open container as a function of the position of the graphical user interface slider along the actual digital image of the second portable computing device. 8. The method of claim 7, further comprising the step of aggregating the volume of remaining liquid in the open container with the second volume of remaining liquid in the second open container. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein movement of the sliding member at the graphical user interface along the digital image of the container corresponding to an open container causes at least a portion of the actual digital image to be clear. 10. The method of claim 9, wherein a remaining portion of the actual digital image is not clear and movement of the sliding member along the image changes that portion of the actual digital image which is not clear to clear. 11. The method of claim 1, further comprising a server in communication with the portable computing device and the server aggregating the number of filled containers and the volume of remaining liquid in the open container to determine a total volume, determining whether the total volume exceeds a predetermined level, and outputting an alert if the total volume does not exceed the predetermined value. 12. A system for taking the physical inventory of liquids dispensed in full and partially full containers comprising: a portable computing device having a graphical user interface;a library of actual digital images of containers to be inventoried from the portable computing device, each digital image of the actual images of containers including an identifying characteristic;an actual digital image of a container to inventory being selectively displayed at the graphical user interface, the graphical user interface including a sliding member for sliding along the actual digital image of the container relative to the identifying characteristic, and the portable computing device either calculating a volume of remaining liquid in the open container as a function of the position of the graphical user interface slider along the actual digital image or transmitting a position of the graphical user interface slider along the actual digital image. 13. The system of claim 12, wherein the identifying characteristic includes the label associated with the container. 14. The system of claim 12, further comprising a server, the portable computing device transmitting the actual digital image and graphical user interface position to the server, the server calculating the volume of liquid remaining in the actual container. 15. The system of claim 14, wherein the graphical user interface receives a number corresponding to a number of unopened containers, and the system calculates the volume of the liquid contained in the unopened containers, and aggregates the volume of the liquid of the unopened containers with the volume of liquid remaining in the open container. 16. The system of claim 12, further comprising a second portable computing device having a graphical user interface, the second portable computing device causing an actual digital image of a second container corresponding to a second open container to be shown at the graphical user interface of the second portable computing device, the actual digital image of the second container including a second identifying characteristic, the graphical user interface including a sliding member for sliding along the image of the second open container relative to the second identifying characteristic to a position along the second opened container corresponding to an amount of liquid remaining in an actual second container, the portable computing device either calculating a second volume of remaining liquid in the second open container as a function of the position of the graphical user interface slider along the actual digital image of the second portable computing device, or transmitting the position of the graphical user interface along the actual image of the second portable computing device. 17. The system of claim 16, further comprising a server, wherein the server receives the calculated volume of remaining liquid in the open container and the calculated volume of remaining liquid in the second container and aggregates the volume of remaining liquid in the open container with the second volume of remaining liquid in the second open container. 18. The system of claim 14, wherein movement of the sliding graphical user interface causes the actual image to change appearance. 19. The system of claim 14, wherein the library of actual digital images is stored at the server. 20. The system of claim 14, wherein the server transmits a list of actual images of containers to the portable computing device, and the graphical user interface causing a respective actual image of a container to be selectively displayed at the graphical user interface. 21. The method of claim 1, wherein a profit is calculated as a function of the calculated volume of remaining liquid in the open container. 22. The system of claim 12, wherein a profit is calculated as a function of the calculated volume of remaining liquid in the open container.
