The system of claim 2, wherein each of the array of permeable bodies is impregnated with a dried electrolyte component, and configured to be saturated with fluid prior to use by the user in forming an electrically conductive interface with the user. 4. The system of claim 1, wherein the conductive substrate region is composed of a conductive polymer. 5. The system of claim 1, wherein a base region of each opening of the array of openings of the first housing portion is recessed at the broad surface, such that the base region of each opening defines a bowl about its corresponding opening. 6. The system of claim 1, wherein at least two of the array of permeable bodies, both configured to have identical polarities, are of unitary construction with each other. 7. The system of claim 1, wherein each of the array of permeable bodies has a cavity at a proximal portion and a tapered distal portion, and wherein the protrusions of the substrate region correspond to and are configured to reside within cavities of the array of permeable bodies. 8. The system of claim 1, wherein each of the array of permeable bodies is composed of an olefin polymer matrix. 9. The system of claim 1, wherein the conductive substrate region comprises a first subregion coupled to the first subset of the array of permeable bodies and a second subregion coupled to both the second subset and the third subset of the array of permeable bodies, wherein the first subregion of the conductive substrate region is separated from the second subregion of the conductive substrate region by an insulator. 10. The system of claim 1, wherein each of the first, the second, and the third rectangular subarrays of the array of permeable bodies is configured to be oriented over a motor cortex region of the brain of the user during use. 11. A system for electrically stimulating a user, the system comprising: a housing defining an array of openings at a broad surface;an array of permeable bodies with distal portions exposed through the array of openings;a substrate region defining an array of protrusions corresponding to and configured to support the array of permeable bodies; anda set of conductors in communication with the substrate region, the set of conductors including a first conductor configured to provide a first subset of the array of permeable bodies with a first polarity and a second conductor configured to provide a second subset of the array of permeable bodies with a second polarity, wherein the first subset forms a first rectangular subarray and the second subset forms a second rectangular subarray adjacent the first rectangular subarray. 12. The system of claim 11, further including an electromechanical coupler configured to couple the set of conductors to an electronics subsystem for transmission of current through the set of conductors. 13. The system of claim 12, wherein the electromechanical coupler includes an electronics substrate having a detection connector coupled through a resistor, having a characteristic value, to a stimulation connector, wherein the electronics substrate is configured to reversibly interface with a detection circuit, of the electronics subsystem that provides a probe voltage to the stimulation connector, thereby producing a characteristic voltage at the detection connector that is determined by the detection circuit. 14. The system of claim 13, wherein the characteristic voltage is indicative of a specific electrode unit of the system, and wherein electronics subsystem is configured generate an alert output upon detection that the characteristic voltage corresponds to an electrode unit system configuration unsuitable for stimulation of the user. 15. The system of claim 11, wherein a base region of each opening of the array of openings of the housing is recessed at the broad surface, such that the base region of each opening defines a bowl about its corresponding opening. 16. The system of claim 15, wherein the housing defines a volume within which the substrate region and the set of conductors are sealed, and wherein the housing includes a ferromagnetic material region that interfaces the system with a magnet of an external headset that couples the system to the user. 17. The system of claim 15, wherein at least one of 1) the broad surface of the housing and, 2) collectively, distal portions of the array of permeable bodies define a concave surface that is complementary to the body region, comprising a head region, of the user during use of the system. 18. The system of claim 11, wherein the substrate region comprises a first subregion coupled to the first subset of the array of permeable bodies and a second subregion coupled to the second subset of the array of permeable bodies, wherein the first subregion of the substrate region is separated from the second subregion of the substrate region by an insulator. 19. The system of claim 11, wherein each of the array of permeable bodies is composed of an olefin polymer matrix, and wherein the substrate region is composed of a conductive polymer. 20. The system of claim 11, wherein each of the array of permeable bodies has a cavity at a proximal portion and a tapered distal portion, and wherein protrusions of the substrate region correspond to and are configured to reside within cavities of the array of permeable bodies.
