A coolant system coupled in a vehicle, comprising: a coolant overflow container including a recess for holding fluid;a vertical, hollow tube having an internal recess, the tube positioned adjacent to the container such that a bottom-most level of the container is above a bottom-most level of the internal recess of the tube;a first hose fluidly coupling a top portion of the container to a top portion of the vertical tube;a second hose fluidly coupling the bottom-most level of the container to a bottom portion of the vertical tube at a location above the bottom-most level of the internal recess, wherein a level of fluid in the container equilibrates with a level of fluid in the vertical tube;a first sensor positioned within the internal recess;a second sensor coupled to the vehicle and external to the vertical tube for estimating a vehicle motion parameter; anda processor communicatively coupled to the first sensor in the internal recess, the processor configured with computer readable instructions in memory for estimating a fluid level in the vertical tube based on output from the first sensor and for adjusting the estimated fluid level based on output from the second sensor;wherein the adjustment of the estimated fluid level includes estimating an expected slosh based on the output of the second sensor, calculating an actual slosh based on the output of the first sensor, and adjusting the estimated fluid level with a compensation term based on the actual slosh relative to the expected slosh; andwherein estimating the fluid level in the vertical tube based on the output from the first sensor includes periodically transmitting a signal from the first sensor towards a top of the tube, receiving, at the first sensor, an echo of each transmitted signal upon reflection off the top of the vertical tube, estimating an average duration elapsed between the transmitting and the receiving, and estimating the fluid level based on the average duration. 2. The system of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured with computer readable instructions in memory for: inferring a fluid level in the container based on the adjusted estimate of fluid level in the vertical tube; andlimiting engine power based on the inferred fluid level relative to each of an upper and a lower threshold, wherein the fluid level in the vertical tube is estimated over a duration that is based on engine coolant temperature, and wherein the inferred fluid level is further adjusted based on a change in the estimated fluid level over the duration. 3. A coolant system coupled in a vehicle, comprising: a coolant overflow container including a recess for holding fluid;a vertical, hollow tube having an internal recess, the vertical tube positioned adjacent to the container such that a bottom-most level of the container is above a bottom-most level of the internal recess of the vertical tube;a first hose fluidly coupling a top portion of the container to a top portion of the vertical tube;a second hose fluidly coupling the bottom-most level of the container to a bottom portion of the vertical tube at a location above the bottom-most level of the internal recess, wherein a level of fluid in the container equilibrates with a level of fluid in the vertical tube;a first sensor positioned within the internal recess;a motion sensor coupled to the vehicle and external to the vertical tube for estimating a vehicle motion parameter including at least one of vehicle speed and vehicle acceleration; anda processor communicatively coupled to the first sensor in the internal recess. 4. The coolant system of claim 3, where the motion sensor includes one or more of an acceleration sensor, an attitude sensor, a vehicle speed sensor, and a wheel speed sensor. 5. The coolant system of claim 3, where the first sensor is an ultrasonic level sensor. 6. The coolant system of claim 5, where the ultrasonic level sensor includes a piezoelectric transducer element capable of sending and receiving ultrasonic pulse signals. 7. The coolant system of claim 3, further comprising a first sensor circuit board configured to receive signals from the first sensor. 8. The coolant system of claim 7, where the first sensor circuit board is configured to receive output from a temperature sensor coupled to the vertical tube. 9. The coolant system of claim 3, where the vehicle motion parameter includes one or more of a longitudinal attitude, a longitudinal acceleration, a lateral attitude, and a lateral acceleration. 10. The coolant system of claim 3, further comprising an inlet hose directing coolant from a radiator to the coolant overflow container. 11. The coolant system of claim 3, where the second hose is fluidly coupled to a turbocharger outlet hose receiving coolant from a coolant conduit in a turbocharger. 12. The coolant system of claim 3, where the second hose is fluidly coupled to a heater loop in the coolant system. 13. The coolant system of claim 3, wherein the processor is configured with computer readable instructions in memory for limiting engine power based on outputs from the first sensor and the motion sensor. 14. The coolant system of claim 3, wherein the processor is configured with computer readable instructions in memory for, prior to limiting engine power, estimating a fluid level in the coolant overflow container based on outputs from the first sensor and the motion sensor. 15. The coolant system of claim 14, where estimating the fluid level in the coolant overflow container based on outputs from the first sensor and the motion sensor includes estimating the fluid level using signals from the first sensor and adjusting the estimated fluid level based on the vehicle motion parameter. 16. The coolant system of claim 14, wherein the processor is configured with computer readable instructions in memory for indicating degradation of at least one of the first sensor and the motion sensor based on the estimated fluid level.
