A tunable vibration isolator with active tuning elements having a housing, fluid chamber, and at least one tuning port. A piston is resiliently disposed within the housing. A vibration isolation fluid is disposed within the fluid chambers and the tuning ports. The tunable vibration isolator may employ either a solid tuning mass approach or a liquid tuning mass approach. The active vibration elements are preferably solid-state actuators.

A vibration isolator comprising: a housing;a piston resiliently disposed within the housing;a first fluid chamber and a second fluid chamber defined by the housing and the piston;a tuning passage placing the first fluid chamber and the second fluid chamber in continuous fluid communication;a tuning mass disposed within the tuning passage;a tuner having; a fluid exit port on a first end; andan elongated tubular shaft on a second end;the tuner configured to telescope the elongated tubular shaft within the tuning passage to adjust a frequency of the tuning mass, wherein movement of the tuner changes an axial length of the tuning passage; anda first actuator and a second actuator both rigidly coupled to a vibrating structure and resiliently coupled to the housing for selectively transferring forces to the housing;wherein the first and second actuators are axially aligned and operate out of phase to each other. 2. The vibration isolator according to claim 1, wherein the tuning mass is a fluid. 3. The vibration isolator according to claim 1, further comprising: at least one flow diverter aligned with the tuning passage for directing the flow of a tuning fluid;wherein the turning mass is the tuning fluid. 4. The vibration isolator according to claim 1, wherein the actuators are piezoceramic actuators. 5. The vibration isolator according to claim 1, wherein the actuators are electromagnetic actuators. 6. The vibration isolator according to claim 1, wherein the actuators are pneumatic actuators. 7. The vibration isolator according to claim 1, wherein the actuators are hydraulic actuators. 8. The vibration isolator according to claim 1, wherein the actuators are piezoelectric actuators. 9. The vibration isolator according to claim 1, wherein the axial length of the tuning passage is selectively adjusted. 10. The vibration isolator according to claim 1, further comprising: a pump in communication with the tuner and configured to translate the tuner between an extended and a retracted position. 11. The vibration isolator according to claim 1, further comprising: a gas accumulation chamber in fluid communication with the first fluid chamber for collecting and accumulating gas from the first fluid chamber, the second fluid chamber, and the tuning passage. 12. The vibration isolator according to claim 11, wherein the gas accumulation chamber permits steady state pressure relief within the housing while avoiding oscillatory pressure.
