The sole according to claim 2, wherein the first portion of the second surface region arranged along the outer rim of the sole is an intermediate frame, wherein the intermediate frame is arranged so that at least a third portion of the first surface region is shaped to fit within an opening in the intermediate frame. 4. The sole according to claim 1, wherein the first surface region is shaped to extend from at least a midfoot region through a heel region of the sole, wherein a thickness of the first surface region increases from the midfoot region to the heel region. 5. The sole according to claim 1, wherein the particles comprise a diameter of about 0.5 mm to about 25 mm. 6. The sole according to claim 5, wherein at least a second portion of the first surface region is exposed. 7. The sole according to claim 1, wherein the second surface region comprises at least one of foamed ethylene-vinyl acetate, non-expanded thermoplastic polyurethane, rubber, polypropylene, polyamide, polystyrene, and expanded polypropylene. 8. The sole according to claim 1, wherein the second surface region is formed of foamed ethylene-vinyl acetate. 9. A shoe comprising the sole according to claim 1. 10. The sole according to claim 1, wherein the particles have a substantially elliptical or spherical shape. 11.
