1. A sole for a shoe comprising: a first component and a second, separately formed, component, wherein the first component and the second component are combined to form at least a portion of the sole;wherein the first component comprises at least a base portion of the sole, and the second component comprises a cushioning layer arranged in at least one of a forefoot or heel area of the sole;wherein the cushioning layer comprises expanded thermoplastic polyurethane in the form of expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles, wherein adjacent expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles are directly bonded to one another at their surfaces to form a granular but closed plastic foam structure, wherein the closed plastic foam structure of the cushioning layer is free of gaps passing therethrough;wherein the cushioning layer comprises greater cushioning properties than the base portion;wherein the base portion is free from expanded thermoplastic polyurethane and is arranged in at least one of the forefoot or the heel area of the sole to form at least a portion of an outer rim of the sole, wherein the base portion is shaped to overlap at least two sides of the cushioning layer; andwherein the base portion is stiffer than the cushioning layer such that, under shear, the base portion increases stability of the cushioning layer. 2. The sole of claim 1, wherein the expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles comprise a diameter of about 0.5 mm to about 25 mm. 3. The sole of claim 1, wherein the cushioning layer is at least partially surrounded by a foil. 4. The sole of claim 1, wherein the expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles have a substantially elliptical or spherical shape. 5. The sole of claim 1, further comprising a textile reinforcement material. 6. A shoe comprising sole of claim 1. 7. A sole for a shoe comprising: a first component, a second component, and a third component, wherein the first component is separately formed from the second component and the third component;wherein the first component is combined with the second component and the third component to form at least a portion of the sole;wherein the first component comprises at least a base portion of the sole;wherein the second component comprises a first region arranged in at least one of a forefoot or heel area of the sole, wherein the first region comprises a first expanded thermoplastic polyurethane in the form of first expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles, wherein adjacent first expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles are directly bonded to one another at their surfaces to form a granular but closed plastic foam structure, wherein the closed plastic foam structure of the first region is free of gaps passing therethrough; andwherein the third component comprises a second region arranged in at least one of the forefoot or the heel area of the sole, wherein the second region comprises a second expanded thermoplastic polyurethane in the form of second expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles, wherein adjacent second expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles are directly bonded to one another at their surfaces to form a granular but closed plastic foam structure, wherein the closed plastic foam structure of the second region is free of gaps passing therethrough;wherein the first region comprises greater cushioning properties than the second region;wherein the base portion is free from expanded thermoplastic polyurethane and is arranged in at least one of the forefoot or the heel area of the sole to form at least a portion of an outer rim of the sole, wherein the base portion is shaped to overlap at least two sides of the first region and the second region; andwherein the base portion is stiffer than the first region and the second region such that, under shear, the base portion increases stability of the first region and the second region. 8. The sole of claim 7, wherein the first region is manufactured from at least one of a different steaming process or different expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particle from the second region. 9. The sole of claim 8, wherein the first expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles comprise a first particle size, and the second expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles comprise a second particle size that differs from the first particle size. 10. The sole of claim 8, wherein at least one of the first region and the second region is at least partially surrounded by a foil. 11. The sole of claim 7, wherein the first expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles and the second expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles have a substantially elliptical or spherical shape. 12. The sole of claim 7, further comprising a textile reinforcement material. 13. A shoe comprising the sole of claim 7. 14. A shoe comprising: a first layer and a second, separately formed, layer, wherein the layers are combined so that the second layer is positioned below the first layer, wherein the layers are positioned below a wearer's foot when the shoe is worn;wherein the first layer comprises expanded thermoplastic polyurethane in the form of expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles, wherein adjacent expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles are directly bonded to one another at their surfaces to form a granular but closed plastic foam structure, wherein the closed plastic foam structure of the first layer is free of gaps passing therethrough;wherein the second layer is free from expanded thermoplastic polyurethane and is arranged in at least one of a forefoot or a heel area of a sole of the shoe to form at least a portion of an outer rim of the sole, wherein the second layer is shaped to overlap at least two sides of the first layer; andwherein the second layer is stiffer than the first layer such that, under shear, the second layer increases stability of the first layer. 15. The shoe of claim 14, wherein the first layer extends substantially across an entire sole area. 16. The shoe of claim 14, wherein a thickness of at least one of the first layer and the second layer increases toward an outer rim of the shoe. 17. A shoe comprising: an insole and an intermediate sole, wherein the insole is separately formed from the intermediate sole;wherein the insole comprises expanded thermoplastic polyurethane in the form of expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles, wherein adjacent expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles are directly bonded to one another at their surfaces to form a granular but closed plastic foam structure, wherein the closed plastic foam structure of the insole is free of gaps passing therethrough;wherein the intermediate sole is free from expanded thermoplastic polyurethane and is arranged in at least one of a forefoot or a heel area of a sole of the shoe to form at least a portion of an outer rim of the sole, wherein the intermediate sole is shaped to overlap at least two sides of the insole; andwherein the intermediate sole is stiffer than the insole such that, under shear, the intermediate sole increases stability of the insole. 18. The shoe of claim 17, wherein the intermediate sole is shaped so that at least a portion of the intermediate sole is arranged next to the insole. 19. The shoe of claim 17, wherein the intermediate sole is arranged so that the intermediate sole is only partially below the insole. 20. The shoe of claim 17, wherein the intermediate sole is adapted to a shape of the insole. 21. The sole of claim 17, wherein the insole is at least partially surrounded by a foil. 22. The sole of claim 17, wherein the expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles comprise a diameter of about 0.5 mm to about 25 mm. 23. The sole of claim 17, wherein the expanded thermoplastic polyurethane particles have a substantially elliptical or spherical shape.
