A gaming system compatible with patron-controlled portable electronic devices, such as smart phones or tablet computers, is described. When a transaction is initiated on an EGM that requires the input of Sensitive Information data, such data can be input directly from the Player/Patrons Portable Electronic Device. Hence, such input of their Sensitive Information data is more discrete, and generally out of plain view from the other Player/Patrons.

1. A method of operating an electronic gaming machine, the method comprising: receiving an input from a player at the electronic gaming machine, wherein the input corresponds to an initiation of a transaction;determining, by a processor of the electronic gaming machine, that the initiation of the transaction on the electronic gaming machine requires input of player sensitive information for continuance of the transaction;after determining, by the processor of the electronic gaming machine, that the initiation of the transaction on the electronic gaming machine requires input of player sensitive information for continuance of the transaction, establishing communication with a portable electronic device;formatting, by the processor of the electronic gaming machine, a sensitive information user interface including a request for player sensitive information;communicating, at least partially via the processor of the electronic gaming machine, data associated with the formatted sensitive information user interface to the portable electronic device;receiving, through the sensitive information user interface, player sensitive information data from the portable electronic device; andvalidating the received player sensitive information data to enable the player to continue the transaction through an input on the electronic gaming machine. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein establishing communication with the electronic gaming machine comprises establishing communication with the electronic gaming machine through a wireless interface for direct communications with the portable electronic device. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein establishing communication with the electronic gaming machine comprises establishing a secure pairing with the portable electronic device. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the communication with the portable electronic device is via a remote server in communication with the portable electronic device. 5. The method of claim 4, further comprising sending a request to the remote server to enable communication between the portable electronic device and the electronic gaming machine. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein validating the player sensitive information data includes comparing the player sensitive information data with stored sensitive information data in one of the electronic gaming machine and a remote server. 7. The method of claim 1, further including: in the event that the player sensitive information data is determined valid, communicating with the portable electronic device informing of the validation of player sensitive information data; andin the event that the player sensitive information data is determined invalid, communicating with the portable electronic device informing of the invalidation of the player sensitive information data. 8. The method of claim 7, further comprising communicating data to the portable electronic device to cause an application on the portable electronic device to be launched upon a determination of valid player sensitive information data. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein said player sensitive information data is selected from the group consisting of: a wager, a PIN, a password, an account number, a biometric input, a game play input, a social security number, a name, a phone number, and an address. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein said transaction is selected from the group consisting of: an account login, a player tracking transaction, a cash-out, a play of a game, a cash transfer, an account setting, a password recover and a pass code recover. 11. The method of claim 1, further comprising: receiving player tracking information from the portable electronic device, andcausing an initiation of a player tracking session based upon the received player tracking information. 12. The method of claim 1, wherein the player sensitive information data is input from a touch screen associated with the portable electronic device. 13. The method of claim 1, further comprising accepting only player sensitive information data inputted directly to the electronic gaming machine in the event of a broken communication session between the portable electronic device and the electronic gaming machine. 14. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving the player sensitive information data from a stored location on the portable electronic device. 15. The method of claim 1, wherein the sensitive information user interface is formatted according to a determined screen property of the portable electronic device. 16. A method of operating a gaming server, the method comprising: receiving an initiation of a transaction from an electronic gaming machine that requires input of sensitive information for continuance of the transaction;thereafter, establishing communication with a portable electronic device;formatting, by a processor of the gaming server, a sensitive information user interface including a request for player sensitive information;communicating, at least partially via the processor of the gaming server, data associated with the formatted sensitive information user interface to the portable electronic device;receiving, through the sensitive information user interface, player sensitive information data from a player of the electronic gaming machine via the portable electronic device;validating, by the processor the gaming server, the player sensitive information data to enable the player to continue the transaction via the electronic gaming machine. 17. The method of claim 16, wherein validating the player sensitive information data includes comparing the player sensitive information data with stored sensitive information data in the memory. 18. The method of claim 16, further comprising sending data to the portable electronic device causing an application on the portable electronic device to be launched. 19. The method of claim 16, wherein the sensitive information user interface is formatted according to a determined screen property of the portable electronic device. 20. A gaming system comprising: a processor; anda memory device which stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to: receive data associated with an input from a player corresponding to an initiation of a transaction;determine that the initiation of the transaction requires input of player sensitive information for continuance of the transaction;after determining that the initiation of the transaction requires input of player sensitive information for continuance of the transaction, establish communication with a portable electronic device;format a sensitive information user interface including a request for player sensitive information, wherein said formatting of the sensitive information user interface occurs separate from the portable electronic device;communicate data associated with the formatted sensitive information user interface to the portable electronic device;receive sensitive information data from the portable electronic device, wherein the sensitive information data was inputted at the portable electronic device through the sensitive information user interface; andvalidate the received player sensitive information data to enable the player to continue the transaction through an input via at least one input device of an electronic gaming machine. 21. The gaming system of claim 20, wherein when executed by the processor, the plurality of instructions cause the processor to establish communication with the portable electronic device via a wireless interface. 22. The gaming system of claim 20, wherein the data associated with the input from the player corresponding to the initiation of the transaction is received via the at least one input device of the electronic gaming machine. 23. The gaming system of claim 20, wherein when executed by the processor, the plurality of instructions cause the processor to validate the player sensitive information data via comparing the player sensitive information data with stored sensitive information data. 24. The gaming system of claim 20, wherein when executed by the processor, the plurality of instructions cause the processor to: in the event that the player sensitive information data is determined valid, communicate with the portable electronic device informing of the validation of player sensitive information data; andin the event that the player sensitive information data is determined invalid, communicate with the portable electronic device informing of the invalidation of the player sensitive information data. 25. The gaming system of claim 24, wherein when executed by the processor, the plurality of instructions cause the processor to send data to the portable electronic device to cause an application on the portable electronic device to be launched upon a determination of valid player sensitive information data. 26. The gaming system of claim 20, wherein said player sensitive information data is selected from the group consisting of: a wager, a PIN, a password, an account number, a biometric input, a game play input, a social security number, a name, a phone number, and an address. 27. The gaming system of claim 20, wherein said transaction is selected from the group consisting of: an account login, a player tracking transaction, a cash-out, a play of a game, a cash transfer, an account setting, a password recover and a pass code recover. 28. The gaming system of claim 20, wherein when executed by the processor, the plurality of instructions cause the processor to: receive player tracking information from the portable electronic device, andcause an initiation of a player tracking session based upon the received player tracking information. 29. The gaming system of claim 20, wherein the player sensitive information data is stored on the portable electronic device. 30. The gaming system of claim 20, wherein the sensitive information user interface is formatted based on a determined screen property of the portable electronic device.
