The clamp of claim 4, wherein, in the second lateral position, the clamping sides of the jaws are separated enough to receive the fixation element therethrough. 6. The clamp of claim 1, wherein the first and second lateral sides of the latch are received in and configured to move along respective guides in the first and second lateral sides of at least one of the jaws. 7. The clamp of claim 1, wherein the rearward side of one of the jaws comprises one or more jaw engagement surfaces and the crossbar comprises one engagement surface disposed to selectively engage one of the one or more jaw engagement surfaces. 8.
