The battery-powered backpack blower of claim 3 further comprising a floor plate connected to the back plate and configured to protect the housing assembly. 5. The battery-powered backpack blower of claim 4, wherein the top guard plate member and floor plate extend beyond the volute assembly to protect a back portion of the volute assembly. 6. The battery powered backpack blower of claim 1 wherein the back plate assembly includes a top plate portion, a bottom plate portion, and a first intermediate member and second intermediate member connecting the top plate portion and the bottom plate portion. 7. The battery-powered backpack blower of claim 1, wherein when a first battery is positioned in the first battery well, the first battery is positioned generally centrally in the lateral direction to the backpack blower. 8. The battery-powered backpack blower of claim 7, wherein the lateral center of gravity of the blower is substantially midway between the sides of the blower. 9. The battery-powered backpack blower of claim 1, wherein when the first and second batteries are positioned in their respective battery wells, and the first battery and the second battery are positioned generally centrally in the lateral direction to the backpack blower. 10. The battery powered backpack blower of claim 1, wherein the first battery well and the second battery well each have openings formed on the same side of the housing assembly. 11. The battery-powered backpack blower of claim 1, wherein when the backpack blower is resting in an upright position on a surface, the first battery well is further rearward than the second battery. 12. The battery-powered backpack blower of claim 11, wherein when the backpack blower is secured to a user, the first battery well is positioned above the second battery well so as to be equidistant from the user's back. 13. The battery-powered backpack blower of claim 1, further including a tube assembly operatively connected to the volute assembly to receive airflow from the fan member, the tube assembly including a control assembly for controlling the operation of the backpack blower. 14. A battery powered backpack blower comprising: a back support assembly and a harness assembly configured to permit a user to mount the blower to the user's back, the back support assembly and harness provided at a frontal portion of the backpack blower;a housing assembly secured to the back support assembly, the housing assembly having a first battery well for holding a battery;a volute assembly and fan secured to the housing assembly, the volute assembly and fan disposed on a rear portion farthest from the user on an opposite side of the housing assembly from the back support assembly;a motor secured to the housing assembly for powering a fan to blow air through the volute assembly, wherein the fan rotates about an axis that is substantially perpendicular to the back support assembly; andwherein the lateral center of gravity of the backpack blower is substantially at the midpoint of the sides of the blower. 15. The battery powered backpack blower of claim 14, wherein the housing assembly has a second battery well for holding a second battery, the first battery well being above the second battery well, and the motor in between the first and second battery wells. 16. The battery powered backpack blower of claim 14, wherein the volute assembly has an air intake facing the rearward direction. 17. A battery-powered backpack blower, comprising: a back support assembly including a back plate and a harness assembly configured to permit a user to mount the backpack blower to the user's back;a volute assembly configured to provide an air flow pathway through the backpack blower;a housing assembly provided between the back support assembly and the volute assembly, the housing assembly including a first battery well configured to hold a first battery and a second battery well configured to hold a second battery, wherein the first battery well is positioned generally above the second battery and wherein a first battery well opening and a second battery well opening are on sides of the housing assembly;a motor assembly secured to the housing assembly and operatively connected to a fan member; andthe fan member to generate air flow through the volute assembly,wherein the first battery is disposed between the user and the fan member. 18. The battery-powered backpack blower of claim 17, wherein the motor assembly is operatively connected to the fan member, wherein the motor is disposed between the user and the fan member.
