The network element of claim 1, wherein the counter airflow occurs in response to an inactivity of the one of the at least two fans. 7. The network element of claim 1, wherein the fan module further comprises at least one attachment member, disposed on a face of the fan module, adapted to secure the removable fan module to the chassis in the first orientation and the second orientation. 8. The network element of claim 7, wherein the fan module is adapted to receive power from at least one power supply through the attachment member. 9. The network element of claim 1, wherein the removable fan module further comprises: a fan and a handle,wherein the fan is in a first location, relative to the handle, when the fan module is in the first orientation, andwherein the fan is in a second location, relative to the handle, when the fan module is in the second orientation. 10. The network element of claim 1, wherein the network element is a one selected from the group consisting of a switch, a multilevel switch, and a router.
