1. A medical connector configured to receive a male luer end of a medical article, the medical connector comprising: a housing having a proximal portion and a distal portion;a female end in the proximal portion, the female end configured to receive the male luer end of the medical article;a male end having a male luer;a rigid valve member being longitudinally movable along a central axis of the housing between an open position to a closed position, the valve member being formed of a single piece of material, the valve member comprising: an internal fluid channel,a closed distal end,at least one opening adjacent the closed distal end,an open-ended proximal end surface having a cross-sectional width larger than the closed distal end, andthe internal fluid channel tapering adjacent to the open-ended proximal end surface;an elastically deformable resilient member at least partially exposed outside the housing, the resilient member configured to couple the valve member and the housing; anda sealing element at least partially disposed within the distal portion of the housing at a location proximal from the male luer, the sealing element configured to inhibit fluid communication through the housing between an interior surface of the male luer and an interior surface of the proximal portion of the housing. 2. The medical connector of claim 1, wherein the sealing element comprises a sidewall and at least one protrusion extending radially outwardly form from the side wall. 3. The medical connector of claim 2, wherein the protrusion is axially secured in both a proximal direction and a distal direction. 4. The medical connector of claim 1, wherein the male luer comprising a first region and a second region, the second region having an internal cross-sectional width that is smaller than an internal cross-sectional width of the first region of the male luer. 5. The medical connector of claim 4, wherein at least a portion of the closed distal end of the valve member is positioned within the second region of the male luer when the valve member is in the closed position. 6. The medical connector of claim 1, wherein the elastically-deformable resilient member is in an extended position when the valve member is in the open position. 7. A medical connector configured to receive a male luer end of a medical article, the medical connector comprising: a housing having a proximal portion and a distal portion;a female end in the proximal portion, the female end configured to receive the male luer end of the medical article;a male end having a male luer;a rigid valve member being longitudinally movable along a central axis of the housing between an open position to a closed position, the valve member comprising: an internal fluid channel,a closed distal end, andat least one opening adjacent the closed distal end, wherein at least a portion of the closed distal end of the valve member is positioned within the male luer when the valve member is in the closed position;a resilient member configured to couple the valve member and the housing; anda sealing element at least partially disposed within the distal portion of the housing at a location proximal from the male luer, the sealing element configured to inhibit fluid communication through the housing between an interior surface of the male luer and an interior surface of the proximal portion of the housing, the sealing element comprising a sidewall and at least one protrusion extending radially outwardly from the side wall, the protrusion being axially secured in both a proximal direction and a distal direction. 8. The medical connector of claim 7, wherein the at least one protrusion is configured to inhibit the sealing element from moving within the distal portion of the housing. 9. The medical connector of claim 7, wherein the resilient member is at least partially exposed outside the housing. 10. The medical connector of claim 7, wherein the resilient member is elastically-deformable and is in an extended position when the valve member is in the open position. 11. The medical connector of claim 7, wherein the valve member comprises an open-ended proximal end surface. 12. The medical connector of claim 11, wherein the open-ended proximal end surface has a cross-sectional width larger than the closed distal end. 13. The medical connector of claim 7, wherein the sealing element comprises a sidewall and at least one protrusion extending radially outwardly form from the side wall. 14. The medical connector of claim 13, wherein the protrusion is axially secured in both a proximal direction and a distal direction.
