Described herein are analyte monitoring systems including a receiver or data processing component that is configured to automatically issue a first alert notification when a first predetermined number of consecutive data packets are not received from the sensor/sensor electronics, and automatically issue a second alert notification when a second predetermined number of consecutive data packets are not received by the sensor/sensor electronics. The receiver may also be configured to enable a user to disenable alert or alarm notifications that are triggered based on detected events.

1. An analyte monitoring device, comprising: a memory storing instructions; anda processor operatively coupled to the memory and configured to execute the stored instructions to: detect a presence of an alert condition;determine whether a predetermined routine related to at least one function of an analyte monitoring device is being performed by the analyte monitoring device;in response to determining that the predetermined routine is not being executed, output a first notification associated with the alert condition; andin response to determining that the predetermined routine is being executed by the analyte monitoring device: output a second notification having at least one visual component so as not to disrupt the predetermined routine;determine that the alert condition is still present at a later time after outputting the second notification, wherein the predetermined routine is not being executed by the analyte monitoring device at the later time; andoutput the first notification at the later time. 2. The analyte monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the predetermined routine is a user initiated routine. 3. The analyte monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the second notification is different from the first notification. 4. The analyte monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the first notification has at least one of an auditory component, a tactile component or a visual component. 5. The analyte monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the second notification further comprises at least one of an auditory component or a tactile component. 6. The analyte monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the analyte monitoring device includes a communication component to receive analyte-related data from sensor electronics operatively coupled to an analyte sensor. 7. The analyte monitoring device of claim 6, wherein the analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes comprising at least one working electrode, the working electrode including an analyte-responsive enzyme and a mediator, and at least one of the analyte-responsive enzyme and the mediator is chemically bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode, and further wherein at least one of the analyte-responsive enzyme and the mediator is crosslinked with the polymer. 8. The analyte monitoring device of claim 6, wherein the analyte sensor is a glucose sensor and wherein the alert condition is one of an impending hyperglycemia condition or an impending hypoglycemia condition. 9. The analyte monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the predetermined routine is at least one of: a blood glucose test, a calibration routine, or a medication dosage adjustment. 10. The analyte monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the second notification is outputted simultaneously with the execution of the predetermined routine. 11. A system, comprising: an analyte sensor to generate signals corresponding to an analyte level in biological fluid under a skin surface;sensor electronics to receive the generated signals; andan analyte monitoring device having a communication component to receive data corresponding to the generated signals from the sensor electronics, the analyte monitoring device configured to: detect a presence of an alert condition;determine whether a predetermined routine relating to at least one function of the analyte monitoring device is being performed by the analyte monitoring device;in response to determining that the predetermined routine is not being executed, output a first notification associated with the alert condition; andin response to determining that the predetermined routine is being executed by the analyte monitoring device: output a second notification having at least one visual component so as not to disrupt the predetermined routine;determine that the alert condition is still present at a later time after outputting the second notification, wherein the predetermined routine is not being executed by the analyte monitoring device at the later time; andoutput the first notification at the later time. 12. The system of claim 11, wherein the predetermined routine is a user initiated routine. 13. The system of claim 11, wherein the second notification is different from the first notification. 14. The system of claim 11, wherein the first notification has at least one of an auditory component, a tactile component or a visual component. 15. The system of claim 11, wherein the second notification further comprises at least one of an auditory component or a tactile component. 16. The system of claim 11, wherein the analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes comprising at least one working electrode, the working electrode including an analyte-responsive enzyme and a mediator, and at least one of the analyte-responsive enzyme and the mediator is chemically bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode, and further wherein at least one of the analyte-responsive enzyme and the mediator is crosslinked with the polymer. 17. The system of claim 11, wherein the analyte sensor is a glucose sensor and wherein the alert condition is one of an impending hyperglycemia condition or an impending hypoglycemia condition. 18. The system of claim 11, wherein the predetermined routine is at least one of: a blood glucose test, a calibration routine, or a medication dosage adjustment. 19. The system of claim 11, wherein the second notification is outputted simultaneously with the execution of the predetermined routine. 20. The system of claim 11, wherein the communication component receives data corresponding to the generated signals from the sensor electronics using at least one of a RF communication protocol, an RFID communication protocol, or a Bluetooth communication protocol.
