The method according to claim 1, further comprising: storing the bookmark and the downloadable interactive application in a memory for subsequent retrieval by the user, whereinthe step of downloading is performed in response to the request to generate the bookmark. 5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of downloading is performed when the bookmark is invoked by the user. 6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of downloading comprises: downloading the downloadable interactive application from a content server. 7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of downloading comprises: downloading the downloadable interactive application from a server when a request to view the generated bookmark is received. 8. The method according to claim 1, wherein the downloadable interactive application is configured to perform a function that is tied to the segment of the audio video content. 9. A system for generating bookmarks, the system comprising: circuitry configured to receive audio video content,reproduce the audio video content for display to a user,receive a request to generate a bookmark during the reproduction of a segment of the audio video content,capture, by circuitry of the system and in response to the request to generate the bookmark during the reproducing of the segment of the audio video content, a uniform resource locator (URL) for a downloadable interactive application associated with the segment of the audio video content, anddownload using the captured URL the downloadable interactive application associated with the segment of the audio video content. 10. The system according to claim 9, wherein the bookmark is associated with metadata that includes the URL, a title, date, and time. 11. The system according to claim 10, wherein the URL and the title are captured from a terrestrial broadcast of the audio video content. 12. The system according to claim 9, wherein the circuitry is configured to store the bookmark and the downloadable interactive application in a memory for subsequent retrieval by the user, anddownload the downloadable interactive application in response to the request to generate the bookmark. 13. The system according to claim 9, wherein the circuitry is configured to download the downloadable interactive application when the bookmark is invoked by the user. 14.
