A gaming system compatible with patron-controlled portable electronic devices, such as smart phones or tablet computers, is described. When a transaction is initiated on an EGM that requires the input of Sensitive Information data, such data can be input directly from the Player/Patrons Portable Electronic Device. Hence, such input of their Sensitive Information data is more discrete, and generally out of plain view from the other Player/Patrons.

1. A gaming system comprising: a housing;at least one display device supported by the housing;at least one input device supported by the housing;at least one processor; andat least one memory device which stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to: detect if a mobile device is within a designated range of a designated area of the housing, wherein said mobile device stores authentication information associated with a player, responsive to the mobile device being detected to be within the designated range of the designated area of the housing: generate a logon code, cause the generated logon code to be wirelessly transmitted to the mobile device, wherein a determination occurs whether to automatically log in the player based on the generated logon code and the stored authentication information, andupon receipt of a wager placed on a play of a game: randomly determine a game outcome, cause the at least one display device to display the randomly determined game outcome, determine any award associated with the randomly determined game outcome, andcause the at least one display device to display any determined award associated with the randomly determined game outcome. 2. The gaming system of claim 1, wherein the player is automatically logged in responsive to a server determining that a logon code wirelessly transmitted from the mobile device to the server matches the logon code wirelessly transmitted to the mobile device. 3. The gaming system of claim 2, wherein the authentication information is wirelessly transmitted to the server with the logon code. 4. The gaming system of claim 3, wherein the server determines if the authentication information is associated with a player account. 5. The gaming system of claim 1, wherein when executed by the at least one processor after the logon code is wirelessly transmitted to the mobile device, the plurality of instructions cause the at least one processor to wirelessly receive data from the mobile device. 6. The gaming system of claim 5, wherein the data includes a logon code and the stored authentication information. 7. The gaming system of claim 6, wherein when executed by the at least one processor, the plurality of instructions cause the at least one processor to automatically log the player in if the logon code wirelessly transmitted from the mobile device matches the logon code wirelessly transmitted to the mobile device. 8. The gaming system of claim 1, wherein wirelessly transmitting the login code to the mobile device includes emitting near-field radio waves. 9. The gaming system of claim 1, wherein the login code expires after a period of time. 10. A method of operating a gaming system, said method comprising: detecting if a mobile device is within a designated range of a designated area of the housing, wherein said mobile device stores authentication information associated with a player, responsive to the mobile device being detected to be within the designated range of the designated area of the housing: generating, by at least one processor, a logon code, causing the generated logon code to be wirelessly transmitted to the mobile device, wherein a determination occurs whether to automatically log in the player based on the generated logon code and the stored authentication information, andupon receipt of a wager placed on a play of a game: randomly determining, by the at least one processor, a game outcome, displaying, by at least one display device, the randomly determined game outcome, determining, by the at least one processor, any award associated with the randomly determined game outcome, anddisplaying, by the at least one display device, any determined award associated with the randomly determined game outcome. 11. The method of claim 10, wherein the player is automatically logged in responsive to a server determining that a logon code wirelessly transmitted from the mobile device to the server matches the logon code wirelessly transmitted to the mobile device. 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the authentication information is wirelessly transmitted to the server with the logon code. 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the server determines if the authentication information is associated with a player account. 14. The method of claim 10, which includes, after the logon code is wirelessly transmitted to the mobile device, wirelessly receiving data from the mobile device. 15. The method of claim 14, wherein the data includes a logon code and the stored authentication information. 16. The method of claim 15, which includes causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to automatically log the player in if the logon code wirelessly transmitted from the mobile device matches the logon code wirelessly transmitted to the mobile device. 17. The method of claim 10, wherein wirelessly transmitting the login code to the mobile device includes emitting near-field radio waves. 18. The method of claim 10, wherein the login code expires after a period of time. 19. A gaming system server comprising: at least one processor; andat least one memory device which stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to: detect if a mobile device is within a designated range of a designated area of a housing of a gaming device, wherein said mobile device stores authentication information associated with a player, responsive to the mobile device being detected to be within the designated range of the designated area of the housing: generate a logon code, cause the generated logon code to be wirelessly transmitted to the mobile device, wherein a determination occurs whether to automatically log in the player based on the generated logon code and the stored authentication information, andupon receipt of a wager placed on a play of a game: randomly determine a game outcome, communicate data which results in a display device displaying the randomly determined game outcome, determine any award associated with the randomly determined game outcome, andcommunicate data which results in the display device displaying any determined award associated with the randomly determined game outcome. 20. The gaming system server of claim 19, wherein the player is automatically logged in responsive to a server determining that a logon code wirelessly transmitted from the mobile device to the server matches the logon code wirelessly transmitted to the mobile device. 21. The gaming system server of claim 20, wherein the authentication information is wirelessly transmitted to the server with the logon code. 22. The gaming system server of claim 21, wherein the server determines if the authentication information is associated with a player account. 23. The gaming system server of claim 19, wherein when executed by the at least one processor after the logon code is wirelessly transmitted to the mobile device, the plurality of instructions cause the at least one processor to wirelessly receive data from the mobile device. 24. The gaming system server of claim 23, wherein the data includes a logon code and the stored authentication information. 25. The gaming system server of claim 24, wherein when executed by the at least one processor, the plurality of instructions cause the at least one processor to automatically log the player in if the logon code wirelessly transmitted from the mobile device matches the logon code wirelessly transmitted to the mobile device. 26. The gaming system server of claim 19, wherein wirelessly transmitting the login code to the mobile device includes emitting near-field radio waves. 27. The gaming system server of claim 19, wherein the login code expires after a period of time.
