The headgear of claim 1, further comprising a rear strap extending between the first and second side members on the rear half of the headgear, wherein the occipital strap is formed separately from the rear strap and the one of the first side member and the second side member. 4. The headgear of claim 3, wherein the second end of the occipital strap is positioned below the rear strap on the rear half of the headgear. 5. The headgear of claim 3, wherein the rear strap is coupled to the rear ends of the first side member and the second side member. 6. The headgear of claim 1, wherein the body of the occipital strap has an arcuate shape along at least a portion thereof. 7. The headgear of claim 1, wherein the body of the occipital strap has at least one linear portion and at least one arcuate portion. 8. The headgear of claim 1, wherein the body of the occipital strap has a first linear portion, a first arcuate portion, a second linear portion and a second arcuate portion. 9. The headgear of claim 1, wherein the occipital strap further includes a coupling near the first end of the occipital strap and an adjustment portion near the second end of the occipital strap, wherein the coupling defines an aperture configured to receive a pivot therein for pivotally coupling the occipital strap to the one of the first side member and the second side member, and wherein the adjustment portion is coupled to the tightening member. 10. The headgear of claim 9, wherein a height of the body is less than heights of the coupling and the adjustment portion. 11. The headgear of claim 1, wherein the occipital strap is adapted to be compliant to the wearer's head. 12. A protective headwear comprising: a shell;a shield coupled to the shell and configured to allow at least partial viewing there through by a wearer of the protective headwear; anda headgear pivotally coupled to the shell, wherein the headgear is configured to engage a wearer's head to support the shell relative to the wearer's head and facilitate pivoting of the shell about a shell axis relative to the headgear between a downward position and an upward position, wherein the headgear includes a first side portion on a first side of the headgear configured to be positioned adjacent a right or left side of a temple of a wearer when worn,a second side portion on a second side of the headgear opposite the first side,a forehead portion extending from and between the first and second side portions on a front side of the shell axis, wherein the forehead portion is configured to engage a wearer's forehead with the headgear worn by a wearer,a top strap extending from and between the first and second side portions, andan occipital strap having an end coupled to one of the first side portion and the second side portion between the forehead portion and the top strap on the front side of the shell axis, and wherein the occipital strap extends rearward and downward from the end of the occipital strap to a rear side of the shell axis opposite the front side and below the shell axis. 13. The protective headwear of claim 12, wherein a vertical plane extends vertically through the shell axis, and wherein the occipital strap is positioned above the shell axis at a location where the vertical plane intersects the occipital strap. 14. The headgear of claim 12, wherein the end of the occipital strap coupled to the one of the first side portion and the second side portion is coupled to the one of the first side portion and the second side portion above the shell axis. 15. A headgear for engaging and supporting protective headwear on a wearer's head, the headgear comprising: a first side member positioned on a first side of the headgear, wherein the first side member includes a front end configured to be positioned adjacent a temple region of a wearer and a rear end configured to be positioned adjacent an occipital of the wearer when worn;a second side member positioned on a second side of the headgear opposite the first side, wherein the second side member includes a front end and a rear end;a forehead strap extending between and coupled to the front ends of the first and second side members;a top strap extending between and coupled to the first side member and the second side member;an occipital strap having a first end and a second end, wherein the first end of the occipital strap is pivotally coupled to the first side member between a location where the top strap is coupled to the first side member and the front end of the first side member; anda tightening member coupled to the occipital strap near the second end of the occipital strap. 16. The headgear of claim 15, wherein the top strap is pivotally coupled to the first and second side members. 17. The headgear of claim 15, further comprising a rear strap extending between and coupled to the first and second side members. 18. The headgear of claim 17, wherein the rear strap extends from and is coupled to the rear ends of the first and second side member. 19. The headgear of claim 18, wherein the first end of the occipital strap is pivotally coupled to the first side member between a location where the rear strap is coupled to the first side member and the front end of the first side member. 20. The headgear of claim 19, wherein the second end of the occipital strap is positioned below the rear strap of the headgear. 21. The headgear of claim 15, wherein the first side member includes a first interior surface and the second side member includes a second interior surface, wherein the first interior surface and the second interior surface face each other, and wherein the first end of the occipital strap is coupled to one of the first interior surface and the second interior surface. 22. The headgear of claim 15, wherein the occipital strap further includes a coupling near the first end of the occipital strap and an adjustment portion near the second end of the occipital strap, wherein the coupling defines an aperture configured to receive a pivot therein for pivotally coupling the occipital strap to the one of the first side member and the second side member, and wherein the adjustment portion is coupled to the tightening member. 23. The headgear of claim 15, wherein the occipital strap is adapted to be compliant to the wearer's head.
