A covering for delivering a substance or material to a surgical site is provided. The covering, with substance provided therein, may be referred to as a delivery system. Generally, the covering may be a single or multi-compartment structure capable of at least partially retaining a substance provided therein until the covering is placed at a surgical site. Upon placement, the covering may facilitate transfer of the substance or surrounding materials. For example, the substance may be released (actively or passively) to the surgical site. The covering may participate in, control, or otherwise adjust, the release of the substance.

1. A bone graft delivery system, the delivery system comprising: a biodegradable polymer mesh covering comprising a first compartment and a second compartment both defined and formed from the covering; and a first substance provided within the covering, wherein the first substance comprises a bone grafting material, the bone grafting material comprising fully demineralized bone fibers and surface demineralized bone chips, and the first compartment comprises a penetrable portion comprising a porous material and is configured to be positioned adjacent a vertebral body, the first compartment provided with the fully demineralized bone fibers, and the second compartment comprises an impenetrable portion and is configured to be positioned adjacent soft tissue, the second compartment provided with the surface demineralized bone chips, and the mesh covering retains the fully demineralized bone fibers and surface demineralized bone chips in spatial proximity to one another, and the mesh covering is configured to conform to surrounding bony contours when implanted in vivo and is configured to expand in vivo, and the covering retains the first substance for placement at a surgical site and facilitates cellular access to the bone grafting material actively or passively through the covering upon implantation at the surgical site, and the covering comprises at least one of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), poly(glycolic acid) (PGA) and poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), and the covering comprises a flexible porous mesh bag. 2. The delivery system of claim 1, wherein the covering includes a physical attachment mechanism. 3. The delivery system of claim 2, wherein the physical attachment mechanism is a suture or a wrap. 4. The delivery system of claim 2, wherein the physical attachment mechanism is a wire. 5. The delivery system of claim 2, wherein the physical attachment mechanism is a string. 6. The delivery system of claim 2, wherein the physical attachment mechanism is an elastic band. 7. The delivery system of claim 2, wherein the physical attachment mechanism is a cable. 8. The delivery system of claim 2, wherein the physical attachment mechanism is a cable tie. 9. The delivery system of claim 1, wherein the covering comprises a first end and a second end and wherein the first and second compartments each extend from the first end to the second end. 10. The delivery system of claim 1, wherein the first and second compartments are arranged with the first compartment over the second compartment. 11. The delivery system of claim 1, wherein the first and second compartments are in communication. 12. The delivery system of claim 1, wherein the covering comprises a functional material. 13. The delivery system of claim 12, wherein the functional material is radiopaque. 14. The delivery system of claim 12, wherein the functional material is bacteriocidal. 15. The delivery system of claim 1, wherein the covering further comprises a reinforcing material. 16. The delivery system of claim 1, wherein at least one of the compartments is unfilled at manufacture. 17. The delivery system of claim 1, wherein the covering is treated to have particles adhered thereto. 18. The delivery system of claim 1, wherein the covering comprises an actively releasing material and is configured to release such material during degradation of the covering. 19. The delivery system of claim 1, wherein the delivery system is tubular.
