The present invention includes a fuel cell system having a plurality of adjacent electrochemical cells formed of an anode layer, a cathode layer spaced apart from the anode layer, and an electrolyte layer disposed between the anode layer and the cathode layer. The fuel cell system also includes at least one interconnect, the interconnect being structured to conduct free electrons between adjacent electrochemical cells. Each interconnect includes a primary conductor embedded within the electrolyte layer and structured to conduct the free electrons.

The fuel cell system of claim 3, wherein said conductor is made from the same material as said anode conductive film. 5. The fuel cell system of claim 3, wherein said conductor is an extension of said anode conductive film. 6. The fuel cell system of claim 1, wherein said interconnect defines a diffusion flow orifice structured to limit diffusion of a reactant through said interconnect. 7. The fuel cell system of claim 1, wherein said conductor is formed of at least one of a precious metal and a precious metal alloy selected from the group consisting of Ag, Au, Pd, Pt, Ag—Pd, Ag—Au, Ag—Pt, Au—Pd, Au—Pt, Pt—Pd, Ag—Au—Pd, Ag—Au—Pt, and Ag—Au—Pd—Pt. 8. The fuel cell system of claim 1, wherein said conductor is formed of at least one of a precious metal cermet and a precious metal alloy cermet, wherein said at least one of said precious metal cermet and said precious metal alloy cermet has a ceramic phase being at least one of Al2O3, yttria stabilized zirconia, scandia stabilized zirconia, doped ceria, LNF(LaNixFe1-xO3), LSM(La1-xSrxMnO3), doped strontium titanates, doped yttrium chromites, and doped lanthanum chromite. 9. The fuel cell system of claim 8, wherein said doped lanthanum chromite is LSCM (La1-xSrxCr1-yMnyO3). 10. The fuel cell system of claim 1, wherein said conductor is a conductive-ceramic. 11. The fuel cell system of claim 10, wherein said conductive-ceramic is at least one of LNF (LaNixFe1-xO3), LSM (La1-xSrxMnO3), doped strontium titanates, doped yttrium chromites, and doped lanthanum chromite. 12. The fuel cell system of claim 11, wherein said doped lanthanum chromite includes LSCM (La1-xSrxCr1-yMnyO3). 13. The fuel cell system of claim 1, wherein said conductor is formed of at least one of a Ni metal cermet and a Ni alloy cermet. 14. The fuel cell system of claim 13, wherein said at least one of said Ni metal cermet and said Ni alloy cermet has a ceramic phase being at least one of yttria stabilized zirconia, alumina, Scandia stabilized zirconia, doped ceria and TiO2, doped strontium titanates, doped yttrium chromites, and doped lanthanum chromites. 15. The fuel cell system of claim 1, wherein said conductor is a blind conductor. 16. The fuel cell system of claim 1, wherein a material of said ceramic seal is yittria stabilized zirconia. 17. The fuel cell system of claim 16, wherein said yittria stabilized zirconia is 3YSZ. 18. The fuel cell system of claim 1, wherein a material of said ceramic seal is scandia doped zirconia. 19. The fuel cell system of claim 18, wherein said scandia doped zirconia is 4ScSZ.
