Solar energy generates steam in a “once-through” configuration without recirculation, with closely managed steam quality, to produce wet steam from high-contaminant feed water without scaling or fouling. Feed water is pressurized, preheated, and evaporated in a series of pipes exposed to concentrated solar energy to produce a water-steam mixture for direct distribution to an industrial process such as enhanced oil recovery or desalination. Water flow rates are managed based on measurements of solar energy and steam production to manage variations in the solar energy. Steam generator piping system uses continuous receiver pipe that is illuminated by segmented parabolic mirrors enabled to track the sun. Provisions for steam generator piping recurring maintenance are provided. Thermal energy from hot condensate and/or from low quality steam is recaptured and warms inlet water.

1. A solar collection system, comprising: an enclosure having a transmissive surface positioned between an exterior region of the enclosure and an interior region of the enclosure to transmit solar radiation from the exterior region to the interior region;a receiver positioned in the enclosure and carrying water between an inlet of the receiver and an outlet of the receiver;at least one reflector positioned in the enclosure to receive solar radiation and direct at least a portion of the solar radiation to the receiver; anda control system configured to: receive a water purity level input for incoming water at the receiver inlet;based at least in part on the input, determine a threshold steam quality value;receive an indication of a steam quality value exceeding the threshold steam quality value; andin response to receiving the indication of the steam quality value exceeding the threshold steam quality value, control steam quality by (a) adjusting water flow rate and/or (b) adjusting heat input to the receiver by directing movement of the at least one reflector. 2. The system of claim 1 wherein adjusting heat input includes reducing heat input in response to the steam quality value exceeding the threshold value. 3. The system of claim 1 wherein the control system is configured to control the steam quality to within a range of 5% to 10%. 4. The system of claim 1 wherein the control system is configured to direct the steam underground at an oil field. 5. The system of claim 1 wherein the receiver is suspended from the enclosure, and wherein the reflector is suspended from the receiver. 6. The system of claim 1 wherein the at least one reflector is one of multiple reflectors in the enclosure, and wherein controlling the steam quality includes directing movement of fewer than all the reflectors in the enclosure. 7. The system of claim 1 wherein controlling the steam quality includes directing movement of the at least one reflector to an off-sun position. 8. The system of claim 1 wherein controlling the steam quality includes directing the at least one reflector to a position at which it reflects at least some light away from the receiver. 9. The system of claim 1 wherein the indication corresponds with a solar energy transient. 10. The system of claim 1 wherein the at least one reflector is one of multiple independently movable reflectors positioned along a length of the receiver. 11. The system of claim 1 wherein the receiver includes an elongated conduit, and wherein the reflector has a parabolic trough shape. 12. The system of claim 1, further comprising a condensate drum coupled to the receiver to remove liquid water from a liquid/vapor stream exiting the receiver. 13. The system of claim 1, further comprising directing a decrease in water entering the receiver in response to an indication of a reduction in solar radiation. 14. The system of claim 1 wherein the receiver includes multiple sections connected in parallel. 15. A method for providing steam for enhanced oil recovery, comprising: directing steam underground at an oil field, with at least a portion of the steam being produced by heat from a solar collector, the solar collector including a receiver and at least one reflector positioned to receive solar radiation and direct at least a portion of the solar radiation to the receiver;receiving an indication of a steam quality value exceeding a threshold steam quality value, wherein the threshold steam quality value is based at least in part on a water purity level input for incoming water at an inlet of the receiver; andin response to receiving the indication of the steam quality value exceeding the threshold steam quality value, controlling steam quality by (a) adjusting water flow rate and/or (b) adjusting heat input to the receiver by directing movement of the at least one reflector. 16. The method of claim 15, wherein adjusting heat input includes reducing heat input in response to the steam quality value exceeding the threshold value. 17. The method of claim 15, further comprising controlling the quality of the steam to within a range of 5% to 10%. 18. The method of claim 15 wherein the at least one reflector is one of multiple reflectors in an enclosure, and wherein controlling the steam quality includes directing movement of fewer than all the reflectors in the enclosure. 19. The method of claim 15 wherein controlling the steam quality includes directing movement of the at least one reflector to an off-sun position. 20. The method of claim 15 wherein controlling the steam quality includes directing the at least one reflector to a position at which it reflects at least some light away from the receiver. 21. The method of claim 15, further comprising removing liquid water from a liquid/vapor stream exiting the receiver. 22. The method of claim 15, further comprising directing a decrease in water entering the receiver in response to an indication of a reduction in solar radiation.
