The surgical stapler of claim 1, wherein the temperature sensing device comprises one of the following: a thermocouple;a resistive temperature device;a thermistor; andan infrared sensor. 5. The surgical stapler of claim 1, further comprising: a second resistive heating element electrically connected in series with the second switching device; anda second temperature sensing device positioned proximate the second resistive heating element, wherein the control system is further configured to control a second force applied to the drive system based on a second temperature associated with the second resistive heating element and sensed by the second temperature sensing device. 6. The surgical stapler of claim 5, wherein the second heating element comprises a resistive wire. 7. The surgical stapler of claim 6, wherein the resistive wire comprises a nickel chromium alloy. 8. The surgical stapler of claim 5, wherein the second temperature sensing device comprises one of the following: a thermocouple;a resistive temperature device;a thermistor; andan infrared sensor. 9. A surgical stapler, comprising: a drive system;an electric motor mechanically coupled to the drive system;a battery electrically couplable to the electric motor; anda control system electrically connected to the electric motor, wherein the control system comprises: an H-bridge circuit comprising a high side and a low side, wherein the low side of the H-bridge circuit comprises: first and second switching devices; anda resistive heating element electrically connected in series with the first switching device;a temperature sensing device thermally coupled to the resistive heating element; anda temperature correlation system electrically coupled to the temperature sensing device, wherein the control system is configured to control a force applied to the drive system based on a current measured in the temperature correlation system. 10. The surgical stapler of claim 9, wherein the temperature sensing device comprises one of the following: a thermocouple;a resistive temperature device;a thermistor; andan infrared sensor. 11. The surgical stapler of claim 9, wherein the temperature correlation system comprises: a controller;a second resistive heating element thermally and electrically isolated from the resistive heating element;a second temperature sensing device thermally coupled to the second resistive heating element and electrically coupled to the controller; anda sensor configured to measure the current. 12. The surgical stapler of claim 11, wherein the controller is electrically coupled to the temperature sensing device. 13. The surgical stapler of claim 11, wherein the temperature correlation system is configured to drive the current measured in the temperature correlation system through the second resistive heating element in an amount which is proportional to a second current concurrently passing through the resistive heating element. 14. The surgical stapler of claim 11, wherein the temperature correlation system is configured to drive the current measured in the temperature correlation system through the second resistive heating element in an amount which is equivalent to a second current concurrently passing through the resistive heating element. 15. The surgical stapler of claim 11, wherein the control system further comprises: a third resistive heating element electrically connected in series with the second switching device;a third temperature sensing device thermally coupled to the third resistive heating element; anda second temperature correlation system electrically coupled to the third temperature sensing device, wherein the control system is further configured to control a second force applied to the drive system based on a second current measured in the second temperature correlation system. 16. A surgical stapler, comprising: a drive system;an electric motor mechanically coupled to the drive system;a battery electrically couplable to the electric motor; anda control system electrically connected to the electric motor, wherein the control system comprises: an H-bridge circuit comprising a high side and a low side, wherein the low side of the H-bridge circuit comprises: first and second switching devices; anda light emitting diode electrically connected in series with the first switching device; anda light intensity sensing device optically coupled to the light emitting diode, wherein the control system is configured to control a force applied to the drive system based on an intensity of light emitted by the light emitting diode and sensed by the light intensity sensing device. 17. The surgical stapler of claim 16, wherein the light intensity sensing device comprises a photon detector. 18. The surgical stapler of claim 16, further comprising a second light emitting diode electrically connected in series with the second switching device. 19. The surgical stapler of claim 18, further comprising a second light intensity sensing device optically coupled to the second light emitting diode, wherein the control system is further configured to control a second force applied to the drive system based on a second intensity of light emitted by the second light emitting diode and sensed by the second light intensity sensing device. 20. The surgical stapler of claim 19, wherein the second light intensity sensing device comprises a photon detector. 21. A surgical stapler, comprising: a drive system;an electric motor mechanically coupled to the drive system;a battery electrically couplable to the electric motor; anda control system electrically connected to the electric motor, wherein the control system comprises: an H-bridge circuit comprising a high side and a low side, wherein the low side of the H-bridge circuit comprises a first leg comprising a first switching device and a second leg comprising a second switching device; anda light-emitting device electrically connected to the H-bridge circuit, wherein a parameter associated with the light-emitting device varies in relation to a current passing through the first leg of the H-bridge circuit, and wherein the control system is configured to control a force applied to the drive system based on a measurement of the parameter.
