Apparatuses, systems, and methods for the deployment of a plurality of autonomous underwater seismic vehicles (AUVs) on or near the seabed based on acoustic communications with an underwater vehicle, such as a remotely operated vehicle. In an embodiment, the underwater vehicle is lowered from a surface vessel along with a subsea station with a plurality of AUVs. The AUVs are configured to acoustically communicate with the underwater vehicle or a second surface vessel for deployment and retrieval operations. The underwater vehicle and/or second surface vessel is configured to instruct the AUVs to leave the subsea station or underwater vehicle and to travel to their intended seabed destination. The underwater vehicle and/or second surface vessel is also configured to selectively instruct the AUVs to leave the seabed and return to a seabed location and/or a subsea station for retrieval.

The method of claim 1, further comprising guiding the first plurality of AUVs to one or more seabed locations without communications provided by the first surface vessel to the first plurality of AUVs. 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising guiding the first plurality of AUVs from the underwater device based on communications provided by a first guidance system, andguiding the first plurality of AUVs to one or more seabed locations based on communications provided by a second guidance system. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the launching step is performed sequentially for each of the first plurality of AUVs as the underwater device is towed by the first surface vessel. 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising actuating a propulsion system on the underwater device to move the underwater device during deployment of the first plurality of AUVs. 8. The method of claim 1, further comprising deploying the first plurality of AUVs while the underwater device is in motion. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein the loading step further comprises loading the first plurality of AUVs onto a plurality of storage devices, wherein each of the plurality of storage devices is configured to carry two or more of the first plurality of AUVs, andtransferring the plurality of storage devices into a storage chamber on the underwater device. 10. The method of claim 1, further comprising raising the underwater device to the first surface vessel;loading a second plurality of AUVs in the underwater device;lowering the underwater device into the body of water;towing the underwater vehicle by the first surface vessel;launching the second plurality of AUVs from the underwater device; anddeploying each of the second plurality of AUVs at a predetermined position on the seabed. 11. A method for the retrieval of a plurality of seismic nodes from on or near the seabed, comprising towing an underwater device in a body of water from a surface vessel;recovering a plurality of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) into the underwater device while the underwater device is towed by the surface vessel, wherein each AUV comprises one or more seismic sensors and a propulsion system; andlifting the underwater device from the body of water to the surface vessel with the plurality of AUVs stored within the underwater device. 12. The method of claim 11, further comprising guiding the plurality of AUVs to the underwater device based on communications provided by the underwater device. 13. The method of claim 11, further comprising actuating a plurality of acoustic signals on the underwater device to guide the plurality of AUVs to the underwater device during retrieval of the plurality of AUVs. 14. The method of claim 11, wherein the recovery step is performed while the underwater device is in motion. 15. The method of claim 11, further comprising loading the plurality of AUVs onto a plurality of storage devices within the underwater device while the underwater device is in motion. 16. A system for the deployment or retrieval of seismic nodes on or near the seabed, comprising an underwater vehicle coupled to a first surface vessel, wherein the underwater vehicle is configured to be lowered and raised from the first surface vessel between one or more subsea positions with a plurality of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), wherein each of the AUVs comprises one or more seismic sensors and a propulsion system, wherein the underwater vehicle is configured to launch the plurality of AUVs from the underwater vehicle as it is towed by the first surface vehicle,a first guidance system and a second guidance system, wherein the first guidance system is configured to guide the plurality of AUVs from the underwater device and the second guidance system is configured to guide the plurality of AUVs to one or more seabed locations. 17. The system of claim 16, wherein the first guidance system is located on the underwater vehicle and the second guidance system is located on a second surface vessel. 18. The system of claim 16, wherein the second guidance system is configured to instruct the plurality of AUVs to return to the underwater device for recovery. 19. The system of claim 16, wherein the underwater device is a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) with a propulsion system. 20. The system of claim 16, wherein the underwater device is a cage.
