A sensor array, method of making same, and related medication compliance monitoring techniques are disclosed. In some embodiments, the array may include a plurality of electrically conductive traces including first and second electrically conductive traces that are electrically isolated from one another. The array also may include an electrically resistive element coupled with the first and second electrically conductive traces. The array may be configured to interface with a medication dispenser such that: the electrically resistive element is disposed over at least one medication compartment of the medication dispenser; and in expelling contents of the at least one medication compartment of the medication dispenser, the electrically resistive element is broken. In some embodiments, the array may be configured for use, for example, in monitoring medication compliance.

The sensor array of claim 1, wherein the plurality of electrically conductive traces is arranged in a matrix such that: the first electrically conductive trace is a constituent of a row of the matrix; andthe second electrically conductive trace is a constituent of a column of the matrix. 4. The sensor array of claim 1, wherein the sensor array is configured to be electrically coupled with a wireless tag apparatus configured to transmit a radio frequency signal including data pertaining to whether the contents of the at least one medication compartment have been expelled. 5. The sensor array of claim 4, wherein the plurality of electrically conductive traces further comprises at least one of a control row and a control column configured to allow the wireless tag apparatus to determine at least one of: a size of the sensor array; andwhether the sensor array is operational. 6. An assembly comprising: a first substrate configured to cover an opening associated with the at least one medication compartment of the medication dispenser; andthe sensor array of claim 1, wherein the sensor array is disposed over at least a portion of the first substrate such that, in expelling the contents of the at least one medication compartment through the first substrate, the electrically resistive element is broken. 7. The assembly of claim 6, wherein at least one of the first electrically conductive trace and the second electrically conductive trace comprises an electrically conductive ink disposed directly on the first substrate. 8. The assembly of claim 6, wherein the electrically resistive element comprises an electrically resistive ink disposed directly on the first substrate. 9. The assembly of claim 6, wherein the sensor array is disposed directly on the first substrate. 10. The assembly of claim 6, wherein the first substrate is configured to hermetically seal the at least one medication compartment of the medication dispenser. 11. The assembly of claim 6, wherein the first substrate includes at least one die-cut portion configured to be aligned with the opening and which is breakable along its outline in expelling the contents of the at least one medication compartment through the first substrate. 12. The assembly of claim 6, wherein the first substrate is a breakable substrate comprising at least one of a paper material and a foil material. 13. The assembly of claim 12, wherein the breakable substrate includes a perforation configured such that a first portion of the breakable substrate and an accompanying first portion of the sensor array are physically separable from a second portion of the breakable substrate and an accompanying second portion of the sensor array such that at least one of the first portion of the sensor array and the second portion of the sensor array remains operational. 14. The assembly of claim 6, wherein the first substrate comprises an electrically insulating material. 15. The assembly of claim 14, further comprising a second substrate, wherein the first substrate is disposed between the second substrate and the sensor array such that the first substrate is disposed over at least a portion of the second substrate. 16. The assembly of claim 15, wherein the second substrate includes at least one die-cut portion configured to be aligned with the opening and which is breakable along its outline in expelling the contents of the at least one medication compartment through the second substrate. 17. A method of making a sensor array configured to interface with a medication dispenser, the method comprising: disposing a plurality of electrically conductive traces over a first substrate, wherein the plurality of electrically conductive traces comprises: a first electrically conductive trace; anda second electrically conductive trace intersecting the first electrically conductive trace at an intersection point;disposing an electrically insulating material over the first electrically conductive trace at the intersection point of the first electrically conductive trace and the second electrically conductive trace such that the second electrically conductive trace is electrically isolated from the first electrically conductive trace; anddisposing an electrically resistive element over the first substrate such that the electrically resistive element is coupled with the first electrically conductive trace and the second electrically conductive trace, wherein: the electrically resistive element is configured to be disposed over at least one medication compartment of the medication dispenser; andin expelling contents of the at least one medication compartment of the medication dispenser, the electrically resistive element is configured to be broken. 18. The method of claim 17, wherein the electrically resistive element comprises a carbon resistor coupled only with the first electrically conductive trace and the second electrically conductive trace. 19. The method of claim 17, wherein the plurality of electrically conductive traces is arranged in a matrix such that: the first electrically conductive trace is a constituent of a row of the matrix; andthe second electrically conductive trace is a constituent of a column of the matrix. 20. The method of claim 17, further comprising: coupling a connector array with the plurality of electrically conductive traces, wherein the connector array is configured to be electrically coupled with a wireless tag apparatus configured to transmit a radio frequency signal including data pertaining to whether the contents of the at least one medication compartment have been expelled. 21. The method of claim 20, wherein the plurality of electrically conductive traces further comprises at least one of a control row and a control column configured to allow the wireless tag apparatus to determine at least one of: a size of the sensor array; andwhether the sensor array is operational. 22. The method of claim 17, wherein: the first substrate is configured to cover an opening associated with the at least one medication compartment of the medication dispenser; andthe electrically resistive element is disposed over at least a portion of the first substrate such that, in expelling the contents of the at least one medication compartment through the first substrate, the electrically resistive element is configured to be broken. 23. The method of claim 22, wherein disposing the plurality of electrically conductive traces over the first substrate involves printing with an electrically conductive ink disposed directly on the first substrate. 24. The method of claim 22, wherein disposing the electrically resistive element over the first substrate involves printing with an electrically resistive ink disposed directly on the first substrate. 25. The method of claim 22, wherein the first substrate is configured to hermetically seal the at least one medication compartment of the medication dispenser. 26. The method of claim 22, further comprising: forming at least one die-cut portion in the first substrate, wherein the at least one die-cut portion is configured to be aligned with the opening and is breakable along its outline in expelling the contents of the at least one medication compartment through the first substrate. 27. The method of claim 22, wherein the first substrate is a breakable substrate comprising at least one of a paper material and a foil material. 28. The method of claim 27, further comprising: forming a perforation in the breakable substrate such that a first portion of the breakable substrate and an accompanying first portion of the sensor array are physically separable from a second portion of the breakable substrate and an accompanying second portion of the sensor array such that at least one of the first portion of the sensor array and the second portion of the sensor array remains operational. 29. The method of claim 22, wherein the first substrate comprises an electrically insulating material. 30. The method of claim 29, further comprising: disposing the first substrate over at least a portion of a second substrate, wherein the first substrate is disposed between the second substrate and both the plurality of electrically conductive traces and the electrically resistive element. 31. The method of claim 30, further comprising: forming at least one die-cut portion in the second substrate, wherein the at least one die-cut portion is configured to be aligned with the opening and is breakable along its outline in expelling the contents of the at least one medication compartment through the second substrate. 32. The method of claim 17, further comprising: disposing an overcoat layer over the first substrate in a manner covering at least a portion of the plurality of electrically conductive traces and the electrically resistive element.
