Methods and apparatus for providing data processing and control for use in a medical communication system are provided.
1. A method of determining glucose information, comprising: receiving, at a receiving device, a signal associated with a monitored analyte level from an in vivo analyte sensor by a communication protocol;retrieving stored signals associated with the monitored analyte level;determining whether the re
1. A method of determining glucose information, comprising: receiving, at a receiving device, a signal associated with a monitored analyte level from an in vivo analyte sensor by a communication protocol;retrieving stored signals associated with the monitored analyte level;determining whether the retrieved stored signals exceed a preset tolerance level such that no more than a predetermined number of the stored signals are determined to be corrupt;when the retrieved stored signals do not exceed the preset tolerance level such that no more than the predetermined number of the stored signals are determined to be corrupt, determining a rate of change of the monitored analyte level based on the received signal associated with the monitored analyte level and the retrieved stored signals, and outputting the determined rate of change on a display of the receiving device; andwhen the retrieved stored signals exceed the preset tolerance level such that more than the predetermined number of the stored signals are determined to be corrupt, temporarily disabling an alarm from being output by the receiving device. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the analyte is one of glucose or lactate. 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising, when the retrieved stored signals exceed the preset tolerance level such that more than the predetermined number of the stored signals are determined to be corrupt, displaying a function related to the rate of change of the monitored analyte level. 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising, when the retrieved stored signals exceed the preset tolerance level such that more than the predetermined number of the stored signals are determined to be corrupt, causing a previously displayed rate of change to be disabled. 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising, when the retrieved stored signals exceed the preset tolerance level such that more than the predetermined number of the stored signals are determined to be corrupt, notifying a user that the rate of change cannot be determined. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the alarm is one of an alarm for an impending hyperglycemia, an impending hypoglycemia, a hyperglycemic condition or a hypoglycemic condition. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the in vivo analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising an analyte-responsive enzyme bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode. 8. The method of claim 7, wherein the analyte-responsive enzyme is chemically bonded to the polymer. 9. The method of claim 7, wherein the working electrode further comprises a mediator. 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the in vivo analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising a mediator bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode. 11. The method of claim 10, wherein the mediator is chemically bonded to the polymer. 12. A device, comprising: a display;an alarm;one or more processors; anda memory, the memory storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:receive a signal associated with a monitored analyte level from an in vivo analyte sensor by a communication protocol;retrieve stored signals associated with the monitored analyte level;determine whether the retrieved stored signals exceed a preset tolerance level such that no more than a predetermined number of the stored signals are determined to be corrupt;when the retrieved stored signals do not exceed the preset tolerance level such that no more than the predetermined number of the stored signals are determined to be corrupt, determine a rate of change of the monitored analyte level based on the received signal associated with the monitored analyte level and the retrieved stored signals, and output the determined rate of change on the display; andwhen the retrieved stored signals exceed the preset tolerance level such that more than the predetermined number of the stored signals are determined to be corrupt, temporarily disable an alarm from being output. 13. The device of claim 12, the memory storing instructions to, when the retrieved stored signals exceed the preset tolerance level such that more than the predetermined number of the stored signals are determined to be corrupt, display a function related to the rate of change of the monitored analyte level on the display. 14. The device of claim 12, the memory storing instructions to, when the retrieved stored signals exceed the preset tolerance level such that more than the predetermined number of the stored signals are determined to be corrupt, cause a previously displayed rate of change to be disabled. 15. The device of claim 12, the memory storing instructions to, when the retrieved stored signals exceed the preset tolerance level such that more than the predetermined number of the stored signals are determined to be corrupt, notify a user that the rate of change cannot be determined. 16. The device of claim 12, wherein the in vivo analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising an analyte-responsive enzyme bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode. 17. The device of claim 16, wherein the analyte-responsive enzyme is chemically bonded to the polymer. 18. The device of claim 16, wherein the working electrode further comprises a mediator. 19. The device of claim 12, wherein the in vivo analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising a mediator bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode. 20. The device of claim 19, wherein the mediator is chemically bonded to the polymer.
