The present invention relates to a floating carrier and a cultivation system for crops such as lettuce in floating carriers on water. The cultivation system comprises a basin comprising at least one elongate production pond with an infeed end on a short side and an opposite outfeed end and with water therein, a number of elongate floating carriers, the length of which corresponds to the width of the elongate production pond and which move in an orientation transversely of a longitudinal direction of the elongate production pond through the production pond from the infeed end to the outfeed end at a rate corresponding to bringing the crops to full growth, which floating carriers each comprise a number of growth locations for the crops where holders for the crops or roots of the crops extend into the water, and a transport system comprising a lifting mechanism and conveyors.

1. Cultivation system for crops such as lettuce in floating carriers on water, comprising: a basin comprising at least one elongate production pond with an infeed end on a short side and an opposite outfeed end and with water therein;a number of elongate floating carriers, which move in an orientation transversely of a longitudinal direction of the elongate production pond through the production pond from the infeed end to the outfeed end at a rate corresponding to bringing crops to full growth, which floating carriers each comprise a number of growth locations for the crops where holders for the crops or roots of the crops extend into the water;a transport system comprising: a lifting mechanism at the outfeed end and a lowering mechanism at the infeed end;at least one conveyor along a long side of the elongate production pond; andat least one pivot mechanism between a conveyor along the infeed end and the at least one conveyor along the long side of the elongate production pond and/or between a conveyor along the outfeed end and the at least one conveyor along the long side of the elongate production pond. 2. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, wherein a length of the floating carriers corresponds to a width of the elongate production pond. 3. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, wherein: the conveyor along the infeed end is between the lowering mechanism and one of the long sides of the elongate production pond; andthe conveyor along the outfeed end is between the lifting mechanism and the long side of the elongate production pond. 4. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the basin comprises at least two said production ponds which lie parallel to each other. 5. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pivot mechanism is configured to pivot a floating carrier at least one of: over the basin; and outside the basin. 6. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, further comprising along the conveyor along the long side of the basin at least one of: a cleaning station;a harvesting station; anda planting station. 7. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, further comprising an advancing mechanism for displacing the floating carriers through the production pond. 8. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 7, wherein the advancing mechanism comprises: a tractive device such as an elastic member; a cross beam connected to the tractive device in the production pond; and a retractive device, such as a selectively actuable winch, located opposite the tractive device relative to the cross beam. 9. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a bridge over the at least one elongate production pond of the basin. 10. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 9, wherein the bridge comprises at least one of a UV lighting system, a suction system, and a spray system. 11. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a water purification installation. 12. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 11, wherein a feed into the basin from at least one of the water purification installation and the water supply installation is arranged through a discharge channel leading out of the basin. 13. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 11, wherein a feed into the basin from at least one of the water purification installation, the water supply installation and the air supply installation is connected to a conduit in and/or at least partially around the basin, the conduit comprising a plurality of outflow openings located at least approximately at equal mutual distances. 14. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a water supply installation. 15. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, further comprising an air supply installation. 16. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lifting mechanism comprises: a float which is displaceable up and downward in the water in the basin along at least one guide and which in a position floating on the water forms a stop for floating carriers in the production pond; anda crane movable up and downward, wherein the weight of the crane resting on the float in a lowered position presses the float downward in order to enable engagement of an underside of at least one of the floating carriers at a time with the crane at the outfeed end for the purpose of lifting thereof out of the water of the basin. 17. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the floating carrier comprises at least one continuous beam which is hollow or manufactured from buoyant material, and which beam extends as a strengthening beam over substantially the whole length of the elongate floating carrier. 18. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 17, wherein the growth locations are arranged to the side of the beam. 19. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 17, with at least two beams, wherein the growth locations are arranged between adjacent beams. 20. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 19, wherein adjacent growth locations are arranged along at least one beam at equal mutual intermediate distances, and growth locations at mutually opposite ends of the floating carrier are each arranged at a distance from the associated end of the floating carrier which is smaller than the intermediate distance, and wherein a sum of the distances from the growth locations at mutually opposite ends of the floating carrier to the associated ends of the floating carrier equals the intermediate distance. 21. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 20 with at least two rows of growth locations, which rows extend in the longitudinal direction of the floating carriers, wherein the intermediate distance is a distance in the longitudinal direction between adjacent growth locations in adjacent rows. 22. The cultivation system according to claim 17, wherein a cloth is at least in use of the floating carrier deposited or draped over the floating carrier and seeds are planted on or in the cloth before the floating carrier is lowered into the pond or basin. 23. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the length of one or more than one floating carriers corresponds to the width of the elongate production pond. 24. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the basin comprises an evacuation system to selectively lower a water level in the basin. 25. The cultivation system according to claim 24, wherein the floating carrier comprises stands or feet to support the floating carrier on a basin bottom or floor. 26. The cultivation system as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a growth cell for accommodating floating carriers or other container, for example for germination of seeds, prior to transport of floating carriers to the basin or transfer from the containers to the floating carriers.
