An apparatus for delivering a clip includes an introducer sheath including an outer surface extending between its proximal and distal ends. A clip is carried on the outer surface, e.g., on a carrier assembly that is slidable along the outer surface from the proximal end towards the distal end. A skin overlies the outer surface of the sheath and the carrier assembly that is separable from the outer surface as the carrier assembly is advanced from the proximal end towards the distal end of the sheath. During use, the distal end of the sheath is inserted into an opening through tissue, e.g., into a puncture communicating with a blood vessel. The carrier assembly is advanced towards the distal end of the sheath, causing the skin to separate from the outer surface of the elongate member, and the clip is deployed from the carrier to seal the opening.

1. An apparatus for delivering a closure clip into an opening through tissue, comprising: an elongate member comprising a lumen extending from a proximal end to a distal end, a hub being disposed at the proximal end;an obturator slidably advanceable through the lumen, the obturator comprising an expandable distal end; anda handle assembly that selectively connects to the hub of the elongate member, the handle assembly selectively advancing a closure clip from a position that is closer to the hub than to the distal end of the elongate member to engage with the tissue surrounding the opening to close the opening. 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the hub and the handle assembly comprise complementary pockets and tabs. 3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the pockets and tabs align the handle assembly with the hub. 4. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a housing slidable relative to the elongate member, the closure clip being advanced by the housing. 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the hub and the handle assembly comprise complementary detents. 6. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a telescoping member extending to the expandable distal end. 7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the telescoping member is slidably received within the elongate member and relative movement between the telescoping member and the elongate member moves the expandable distal end to an expanded state. 8. An apparatus for delivering a closure clip into an opening through tissue, comprising: an elongate member comprising a lumen extending from a proximal end to a distal end, a hub being disposed at the proximal end, the lumen being configured to receive a guidewire;a handle assembly separate from the elongate member and selectively mounted to the hub of the elongate member when the elongate member is placed in vivo, the handle assembly and the elongate member being movable together following mounting together, the handle assembly comprises a control shaft, the handle assembly selectively deploying a closure clip to engage with the tissue surrounding the opening to close the opening, andan expandable member slidably advanceable through the lumen, the expandable member comprising a selectively expandable and collapsible distal end and being configured to present tissue towards the closure clip. 9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the closure clip is deployed from the distal end of the elongate member. 10. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the handle assembly comprises a handle, the handle and the hub comprising complementary mating structures to mount the hub and the handle assembly. 11. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the handle assembly comprises coaxially arranged tubular members. 12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the tubular members are slidable relative to one another. 13. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the hub comprises a side port, the side port providing a bleed back indicator. 14. An apparatus for delivering a closure clip into an opening through tissue, comprising: an elongate member comprising a lumen extending from a proximal end to a distal end, a hub being disposed at the proximal end, the lumen being configured to receive a guidewire and the hub comprising a bleed back indicator side port;a handle assembly that lockingly mounts to the hub of the elongate member so that the elongate member and a portion of the handle assembly are movable together, the handle assembly selectively deploying a closure clip, from a position that is closer to the hub than to the distal end of the elongate member, to contact the tissue surrounding the opening to close the opening; andan obturator slidably advanceable through the lumen. 15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the closure clip is deployed from the distal end of the elongate member. 16. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the handle assembly comprises a handle, the handle and the hub comprising complementary mating structures to mount the hub and the handle assembly. 17. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the handle assembly comprises coaxially arranged tubular members. 18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the tubular members are slidable relative to one another. 19. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the obturator comprises a plurality of expandable and collapsible members. 20. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the obturator moves from an orientation extending generally along a longitudinal axis of the elongate member to an orientation transverse to the longitudinal axis of the elongate member.
