A method and system for automating the management of an inventory of consumer items at a consumer location uses a programmed device that accepts input data and executes control logic for automating inventory management. At least one shopping list is received, a shopping list trend is established, and a smart list is generated with the control logic, in accordance with the shopping list trend, such that the smart list predictive of a next shopping list.

1. A method comprising: receiving, by a computing device of an appliance, shopping lists indicating a plurality of previously acquired items;receiving, by the computing device and via a network, nutritional data information;receiving, by the computing device, an instruction to ignore one or more particular items of the plurality of previously acquired items in response to an indication that the one or more particular items would skew a shopping list trend;receiving, by the computing device and from a scanning device, consumed item information indicating one or more consumed items among the plurality of previously acquired items;determining, by the computing device and based at least on the consumed item information and a subset of the plurality of previously acquired items, the shopping list trend, wherein the subset excludes the one or more particular items to be ignored; andgenerating, by the computing device and based at least on the shopping list trend and the nutritional data information, a next shopping list for output on a display associated with the computing device. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving the instruction to ignore the one or more particular items comprises receiving an instruction to ignore an entire one of the shopping lists. 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising storing, in memory, information corresponding to the shopping lists, wherein the receiving the instruction to ignore the one or more particular items comprises receiving a user input identifying one of the shopping lists. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining the shopping list trend comprises determining the shopping list trend further based on a time at which the one or more consumed items were consumed. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining the shopping list trend is further based on differences between a previous predicted list and one of the shopping lists. 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising storing, in memory, budget information indicating a budget of a user for whom the next shopping list is generated, wherein the generating the next shopping list comprises selecting, based on the budget information, one or more items for the next shopping list. 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving, via the network, budget information, wherein the generating the next shopping list is further based on the budget information. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating the next shopping list is further based on an indication of a time between a recent shopping trip and a future shopping trip. 9. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing a recommendation of a store based on the next shopping list and location data of a plurality of stores. 10. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing a recommendation of a store based on the next shopping list and data indicating consumer preferences of a plurality of stores. 11. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing a recommendation of a non-preferred store after determining that price savings at the non-preferred store exceed a threshold. 12. The method of claim 1, wherein the subset of the plurality of previously acquired items changes over time. 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the subset of the plurality of previously acquired items comprises an item of a most recent shopping list of the shopping lists. 14. The method of claim 1, further comprising: updating the shopping list trend based on an updated subset of items comprising at least one of the plurality of previously acquired items and an item of a more recent shopping list than the shopping lists. 15. The method of claim 1, further comprising: increasing a weight of the shopping list trend if an item of the next shopping list is acquired. 16. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving the shopping lists comprises receiving, from a card reader connected to the computing device, the shopping lists. 17. The method of claim 1, wherein the computing device is physically connected to the appliance. 18. The method of claim 1, wherein the scanning device comprises a camera. 19. The method of claim 1, wherein the scanning device comprises a scanner. 20. The method of claim 1, wherein the scanning device comprises a tag recognition device. 21. A method comprising: receiving, by a computing device of an appliance, a plurality of shopping lists and nutritional data information;storing, in memory, information identifying the plurality of shopping lists, each of the plurality of shopping lists comprising at least one item obtained during a respective shopping trip;receiving, by the computing device and from a scanning device, consumed item information indicating one or more consumed items among items on the plurality of shopping lists;receiving an instruction identifying a particular shopping list to ignore;responsive to the receiving the instruction, determining, from the stored information, one or more particular items corresponding to the particular shopping list;generating, based at least on the nutritional data information, the consumed item information, and the items on the plurality of shopping lists excluding the one or more particular items, a predictive shopping list; andoutputting, to a display associated with the computing device, the predictive shopping list. 22. The method of claim 21, further comprising: updating a shopping list trend after receiving an additional shopping list; andgenerating a second predictive shopping list using the updated shopping list trend. 23. A method comprising: receiving, by a computing device of an appliance and via a network, nutritional data information;receiving, by the computing device and from a scanning device, consumed item information indicating one or more consumed items;determining, by the computing device and based at least on the nutritional data information, the consumed item information, and purchased item information indicating previously purchased items, a shopping trend;after receiving an instruction to ignore one or more particular items of the previously purchased items, updating the shopping trend to remove the one or more particular items from consideration by the shopping trend; andgenerating, based on the shopping trend, a shopping list for output on a display associated with the computing device. 24. The method of claim 23, wherein the instruction comprises an identification of a past shopping list. 25. The method of claim 23, wherein the generating the shopping list comprises selecting one or more items for the shopping list to comply with a budget. 26. A system comprising: an appliance;one or more processors;memory storing computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause a computing device of the appliance to: receive, via a network, nutritional data information;receive shopping lists indicating a plurality of previously acquired items;receive an instruction to ignore one or more particular items of the plurality of previously acquired items in response to an indication that the one or more particular items would skew a shopping list trend;receive, from a scanning device configured to determine consumed item information indicating one or more consumed items among the plurality of previously acquired items, the consumed item information;determine, based at least on the consumed item information and a subset of the plurality of previously acquired items, the shopping list trend, wherein the subset excludes the one or more particular items to be ignored; andgenerate, based on the shopping list trend, a predictive shopping list; anda display configured to output the predictive shopping list. 27. The system of claim 26, further comprising an input device configured to read the shopping lists. 28. The system of claim 26, wherein the appliance comprises a refrigerator and the scanning device comprises a camera, scanner, or tag recognition device.
