This disclosure generally relates to an apparel article, such as an article of clothing, that includes a pre-worn piece as a design element integral with the article of clothing. The pre-worn piece may be, for example, a cut-out of an athletic jersey, a uniform, a shirt or the like, formed in a particular design pattern, that was worn by a member of a sports team such as a professional sports team. In another aspect, the disclosure relates to a method for marketing an article or articles in a line of apparel, such as sporting goods apparel, with such pre-worn pieces affixed to the articles as integral design elements.

An apparel article comprising: a body portion made of a new and finished apparel article;at least one pre-worn piece taken from an indicia-bearing apparel article that was previously worn by an athlete at a sporting event held on a particular date and at a particular place, the at least one pre-worn piece having an outer perimeter and being affixed onto the apparel article so that the entire pre-worn piece covers a portion of the apparel article and is fastened to the apparel article along the outer perimeter of the pre-worn piece; anda provenance portion located on the finished apparel article and containing an official apparel authentication issued by an official authenticating authority for the particular sport associated with the at least one pre-worn piece and further having a name of the athlete or team, a name of the official authenticating authority for the particular sport associated with the at least one pre-worn piece, and a listing of at least one of the event, date and particular place associated with the at least one pre-worn piece to create an authenticated sports memorabilia item that can be instantaneously identified down to memorabilia details including a specific athlete or team, the authenticating authority, and at least one of the event, date and place associated with the at least one pre-worn piece thereby providing a readily visible provenance portion that not only markets the memorabilia item to the consumer due to the memorabilia details provided thereon, but also allows the consumer to quickly search through a plurality of apparel articles to instantaneously locate a specific item being sought by the consumer and then display the memorabilia details when wearing the specific item. 2. The article of claim 1 wherein the pre-worn piece is formed in a design pattern in which the pre-worn piece has a texture or coloration different than the new and finished apparel article to sufficiently standout from the new and finished apparel article. 3. The article of claim 2 wherein the pre-worn piece is a cut-out of an athletic jersey having at least one of a logo, number and letters associated with a particular athlete or team. 4. The article of claim 2 wherein the pre-worn piece is part of an item that was worn by a member of a professional sports team and together the pre-worn piece and new and finished apparel article combine to match a color combination associated with the professional sports team or athlete. 5. The article of claim 1 wherein the pre-worn piece and providence portion are located on different portions of the new and finished apparel article and spaced apart from one another so as not to disturb the general appearance of the apparel article. 6. The article of claim 5 wherein at least one of the pre-worn piece and provenance portion are located on a lower body portion of the new and finished apparel article or on a sleeve of the new and finished apparel article. 7. The article of claim 6 further including a second pre-worn piece attached to the new and finished apparel article and associated in theme to the at least one pre-worn piece. 8. The article of claim 2 further comprising a plurality of apparel articles according to claim 2 wherein each apparel article has a design pattern with slight variation in the constituency of the pre-worn piece so that no one pre-worn piece is identical to another pre-worn piece. 9. The article of claim 2 wherein the pre-worn piece is a portion of a shirt worn by a professional golfer. 10. The article of claim 2 wherein the pre-worn piece is a portion of an athletic uniform worn by a baseball, basketball, hockey or football player. 11. The article of claim 10 wherein the pre-worn piece is a portion of a NASCAR racing suit worn by a NASCAR driver. 12. The article of claim 5 wherein both the pre-worn piece and providence portion are affixed to exterior surfaces of the new and finished apparel article so that both are always readily visible to potential consumers. 13. An apparel article comprising: a new and finished apparel article having first and second sleeves and a main body having an upper body section and a lower body section, each of the sleeves and upper and lower body sections constituting its own portion of the new and finished apparel article;at least one pre-worn piece attached to a first portion of the new and finished apparel article and taken from a pre-worn apparel article that was previously worn by an athlete at a sporting event; anda provenance portion attached to another portion of the new and finished apparel article different from the first portion containing the at least one pre-worn piece so as to space the provenance portion from the at least one pre-worn piece in order to not distract from the overall appearance formed by the new and finished apparel article and the at least one pre-worn piece, the provenance portion having a name of an official authenticating authority for the sport associated with the at least one pre-worn piece and a listing of memorabilia details including the event, date and particular place associated with the pre-worn piece such that the memorabilia details are instantaneously visible and identifiable to a viewer of the apparel article, the provenance portion thereby providing the valuable benefit of marketing the apparel article to the consumer due to the memorabilia details provided thereon, and allowing the consumer to quickly search through a plurality of apparel articles to instantaneously locate a specific item being sought by the readily visible memorabilia details and then display the memorabilia details when wearing the specific item. 14. The apparel article of claim 13, wherein the pre-worn piece is attached to at least one of the sleeves of the new and finished apparel article. 15. The apparel article of claim 13, wherein the provenance portion is permanently affixed to the apparel article. 16. The apparel article of claim 15, wherein the provenance portion is stitched to the new and finished apparel article about a perimeter of the provenance portion so that the provenance portion and new and finished apparel article are flush with one another so as not to extend from the new and finished apparel article. 17. The apparel article of claim 13, wherein the provenance portion and at least one pre-worn piece are both located on an exterior of the apparel article.
