A pickup location that includes a control station and one or more storage compartment modules provides the ability for items to be ordered and delivered for pickup by a user without having to pack those items in a shipping package prior to shipping from a materials handling facility. Delivering items for pickup by a user without having to package the items prior to shipping, may provide a better experience for the customer, reduce waste in packaging material and a lower cost of delivering the ordered items to the customer.

A storage compartment module of claim 1, wherein: the storage compartment module further includes a spring mechanism; andthe spring mechanism is configured to propel the door outward subsequent to the locking mechanism being disengaged to identify to a user that the door is unlocked and the storage compartment is accessible. 10. A storage compartment module of claim 1, wherein the control component is further configured to at least determine that the object has been added to or removed from the interior space based at least in part on an image from the image capture device. 11. A storage compartment module of claim 1, wherein the storage compartment further includes a plurality of rising elements that extend from a surface of the plurality of surfaces to help with a detection of the object with the presence detection sensor. 12. A storage compartment module of claim 1, wherein the control component includes a storage compartment management component and a control station. 13. A storage compartment module of claim 1, wherein the control component is further configured to at least: determine that the object is not present in the interior space; andin response to determining that the object is not present in the interior space, allow the locking mechanism to be engaged. 14. A storage compartment module of claim 13, further comprising: a motion sensor coupled to the control component, wherein the control component is further configured to at least determine that the object is present or not present in the interior space based at least in part on an output from the motion sensor. 15. A storage compartment module of claim 13, wherein the control component determines that the object is present or not present in the interior space based at least in part on the signal output from the presence detection sensor. 16. The storage compartment module of claim 1, wherein the control component is further configured to at least: generate, at a seventh time that is subsequent to the sixth time and in response to the second signal, a notification that is output indicating the presence of the object in the interior space;determine, at an eighth time that is subsequent to the seventh time, and based at least in part on a third signal output from the presence detection sensor, that the object is not present in the interior space; andcause, at a ninth time and based at least in part on the third signal indicating that the object is not present in the interior space, the locking mechanism to be engaged, securing the door in the closed position. 17. The storage compartment module of claim 1, further comprising: an illumination component configured to illuminate the interior space. 18. The storage compartment module of claim 1, further comprising: a magnet configured to assist in retrieval of the door and to hold the door in the closed position. 19. The storage compartment module of claim 1, further comprising: a connector component configured to connect with at least one of a second storage compartment module or a control station. 20. The storage compartment module of claim 19, wherein the connector component provides at least one of power or communication to the storage compartment module. 21. A storage compartment module of a pickup location, comprising: a structure including a storage compartment having a plurality of surfaces that define an interior space;a door mechanically coupled to the structure, wherein the door is configured to at least, in a closed position, hinder access to the interior space;a locking mechanism configured to at least selectively hinder movement of the door from the closed position; anda control component coupled to the locking mechanism, wherein the control component is configured to at least: cause, at a first time, the locking mechanism to disengage to permit access to the interior space;determine, at a second time that is subsequent to the first time, that an object is present in the interior space;in response to the determination that the object is present in the interior space of the storage compartment, cause, at a third time that is subsequent to the second time, the locking mechanism to be engaged;cause, at a fourth time that is subsequent to the third time, the locking mechanism to disengage to permit access to the interior space of the storage compartment and the object present therein;determine, at a fifth time that is subsequent to the fourth time, that the object is present in the interior space; andin response to a determination that the object is present in the interior space at the fifth time, prohibit, at a sixth time that is subsequent to the fifth time, the locking mechanism from being engaged such that the door cannot be secured in the closed position. 22.
