The purpose of this thesis is to deduce the origination of gridded land subdivision in Jeonju, Kunsan and Iksan central area and analyse the morphological transformation of the urban tissues and urban landscape in Jeonju, Kunsan and Iksan in the 20th century. The method of this study is to investigate the transformation process of morphological elements such as plot structure, building plan, layout, building facades, land use, exterior space structure and their use, with actual field surveys, the analysis of land registration maps in 1912, and various topological maps. Morphological Analysis on Modern Jeonju, Kunsan and Iksan is progressed by two steps. The first step is to analyse the morphological characteristics of street system in the central area of Jeonju, Kunsan and Iksan, and deduce the origin of gridded street pattern. With the result of analysis, the original regular gridded land subdivision in Jeonju seems to have been carried out in the object of a farm-land cultivation around 7th century. And the gridded land subdivision in Kunsan was executed by Japanese Imperialism in open ported era begun from 1899. The second step is to extract the typo-morphology of urban tissue in old-town area. With the result of the study, the structure of morphological region in old-town areas will be analyzed. The main criteria for the analysis of morphological region is street and plot structure. As a result, It is deduced that the origin of plot system in the central part of Jeonju and Kunsan was mainly established in the period of 1950-1960 with result of rapid land subdivision process. Jeonju, Kunsan and Iksan, even though with the same gridded street system, detail morphological characteristics are different among them. This mainly be caused from the origin of land subdivision. It means the origin and their transformation process should be considered in the planning of old town area. The result of this study can be guidelines for the future management of old town area
