The purpose of this project is to develop key techniques for an online,real-time crowd simulation. The proposed crowd simulation techniques are based on a novel event-driven paradigm. Guided by external events reflecting a given scenario, the behavior of a crowd evolves as intended while adding variations due to internal events triggered by the interactions among crowd members. We focused on three fundamental issues in crowd simulation: global crowd behavior planning, individual behavior generation, and motion generation. For global crowd behavior planning, we developed techniques for force field-based particle movement, rule-based behavior handling, and group formation interpolation. For individual behavior generation, we provided a method for event-driven collision handling to compute particle movement trajectories for each individual of crowd. For motion generation, we adopted techniques for example-based motion synthesis. l Publishing six journal papers ACM Transactions on Graphics : 1 Algorithmica : 1 Computer Animation & Virtual World : 3 Computers & Graphics : 1 l Publishing four conference papers ACM Symposium on Computer Animation : 1 Computer Animation and Social Agents : 3 l Registering three domestic patents(register numbers: 0544682, 0544684, 0544686) and one USA patent(register number: 7099494) l Producing one professor, five Ph.Ds, and seven MSs Professor : POSTECH Ph.Ds : three post-docs (KAIST, SNU) and two researchers (ETRI) MSs : LG, KBS, game companies, and universities(Ph.D students)
