<제 1 세부과제>
<제 1 협동과제>
<제 2 협동과제>

Results
A computer system was developed to perform gridded simulation using a high-performance computer. For example, the DSSAT model was reversed engineered using C++. The DSSAT model was also modified to use gridded weather and soil data as inputs. The output modules of the DSSAT model were also developed to support output data files in gridded format, e.g., NetCDF.
It was found that yield of soybean would decrease under elevated temperature conditions. In particular, the number of pods would be the main determinant factor for soybean yield under high-temperature conditions. The daily maximum temperature above 35℃ would also decrease seed yield, which resulted from the decrease in the ratio of a pod set. Crop growth simulation results had similar trend such that growth, development, and yield of soybean would be affected by elevated temperature conditions when the DSSAT-CROPGRO Soybean model was used.
Simulation results suggested that areas favorable for soybean cultivation would increase because growth period of soybean could decrease in the future. For example, the CROPGRO-Soybean model predicted that the soybean growth period (VE-R7) would be shortened by 4 days by 2091-2100 under the RCP 8.5 climate change scenario.
The growth period was expected to decrease more in mountainous regions, e.g., Gangwon Province, where the growth period is longer than other regions in current times. Those results suggested that the spatial variation of the growth period between regions would decrease in the future. Furthermore, it was projected that enrichment of CO2 in the air could also increase soybean yield by 2061-2070.
Nevertheless, it was likely that climate change would cause a negative impact on soybean production in late 21st century. After the 2060s, soybean yield would decrease due to high-temperature stress. In the simulation of soybean growth, high temperature during the seed filling caused the lower average weight of a single seed. Simulation of soybean growth in late 21st century also suggested that plant height would increase during future time periods, which would increase the risk of lodging. Those results suggested that breeding effort for short-statured, small-seeded, and late-maturity cultivar would be useful to minimize the negative impact of climate change on soybean production. It would also be recommended to perform sparse and late planting in the future to avoid the periods during which seeds would be exposed to considerably high temperature.
After changes and improvements had been applied to the CERES-Maize model, a reliable growth pattern of corn was simulated under future temperature conditions. Observation on growth and yield responses of corn in the temperature controlled greenhouse was used to improve modules of the CERES-Maize model. The improved version of the CERES-Maize model indicated that growth period would be shortened gradually throughout the 21st century as temperature increases over time. In the 2090s, for example, growing periods decreased by 16 and 28 days for Chalok#1 and Kwangpyungok cultivars, respectively, in growth simulations using the crop model. Projection of crop yield also indicated that the potential yield of corn would continue to decrease from the mid 21st century on. For example, corn yield could decrease by 10% and 20 % in the 2040s and the 2090s, respectively.
Crop growth simulations suggested that yield reduction of extremely early maturing cultivar could be minimized when sowing dates would be delayed. However, change of planting would not be sufficient to sustain current yield levels for medium-late maturing cultivars. Thus, development of a cultivar with high-temperature resistance would be needed for reliable climate change adaptation for corn production.
Experiments under four temperature regimes indicated that the SUBSTOR model would be useful for yield prediction under elevated temperature conditions. The model also had explained 93% of the variation in yield for three cultivars grown under outdoor field condition with eight different planting dates. The yield of potato projected using the SUBSTOR model under future climate condition (RCP8.5) indicated that the yields of potato grown in the spring could increase by 10% in the 2090s while potato cultivation would become unsuitable for the summer season. The projected yields of potato grown in the fall also decreased by 10% and the yield reduction was resulted from low emergence rate caused by high-temperature stress. Therefore, adaptation option for the fall cultivation would include a cultivar with resistance to the high temperature during the elongation of hypocotyl and proper mulching treatments with pre-sowing treatments, which would promote the emergence rate. It appeared that late-maturing cultivar and late harvesting would be more suitable for the spring and the fall cultivations because of longer growing seasons. Simulation results also suggested that areas favorable for potato cultivation would shift to high-altitude regions in all the seasons.
The CERES-barley model was verified for its capability to reproduce current and future barley productivities using experimental data for two barley varieties, SaeChal and HeenChal, grown under three temperature regimes (ambient temperature [AT], AT+1.5℃, AT+3.0℃) in temperature gradient field chambers (TGFC). Simulated yields were in statistically significant agreement with measured yields.
To apply the CERES-barley model for projecting impacts of barley on climate change, six genetic coefficients (P1V, G1, G3, P1V, G1, and G3) of four different varieties (SaeChal, HeenChal, KeunAl, and Dajin) were parameterized as follows. P1V, G1, and G3 were consistent as 10, 22, and 1.5 while P1D, G2, and PHINT varied from 20 to 23, 25 to 43, and 90 to 93.
An evaluation system for impacts of climate change on barley, capable of projecting productivities for large regions containing big data, was formulated. Specific study outcomes using the system were as follows.
Projected yields of the four barley varieties for the whole nation showed slow increases as year progresses under the representative concentration pathway (RCP) 4.5 scenario and rapid increases after the year 2030 under the RCP 8.5 scenario.
For the provincial regions of Chonbuk, Chonnam, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Jeju, Kangwon, Kyunggi, Kyungbuk, and Kyungnam, while some variations exist due to different meteorological and environmental conditions, yields were projected to increase with similar trends to those of the whole nation except Jeju.
In the case of Jeju, yields were projected to decrease gradually in the future years excluding that of SaeChal in 2030 under RCP8.5.
Suitable cultivation regions for different barley cultivar types (naked, hooded, and malting) in future changing climates under the RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 scenarios were determined using contour lines of mean January minimum temperatures as follows.
Under RCP 4.5, January minimum temperatures of malting barley (- 4℃) and naked barley (-8℃) were projected to gradually move to north while those of hooded barley (-10℃) were projected to rapidly move to north, which would allow it to be suitable to grow in most regions of South Korea.
Under RCP 8.5, January minimum temperatures of malting barley and naked barley were projected to rapidly move to north, which would make it possible to grow in most regions of South Korea from 2070 for hooded barley and from 2100 for naked barley. In the case of malting barley, suitable cultivation regions were projected to move to north with a comparatively slow phase, containing most regions of South Korea except some inland alpine areas in Kangwon and Kyunggi and northen alpine areas in Chungbuk and Kyungbuk in 2100.
ORYZA2000 model showed rice yield of all ecotype decreased with climate change. However, the rate of decrease in yield was different according to ecotype. In general, the decline rate of early ecotype yield was the fastest, followed by the medium-late and the medium. Finally, it was predicted that more than 25% reduction in yield would occur in most areas by the end of the 21st century.
The rice quality was evaluated indirectly through the 1000grain weight obtained from the crop growth simulation. simulation result showed that the 1000 grain weight change was similar to the rice yield change. In order to obtain more information about the appearance quality of rice, the chamber experiment was carried out. the decline of quality was larger than of yield in the chamber experiment. Therefore, it is more important to establish measures for reducing quality deterioration than yield decline.
For adaptation measures, we examined the seeding date shifting, water management, and nitrogen fertilization. As a result, it was confirmed that shifting of seeding date could delay the rate of yield decrease in yields due to climate change. However, it turned out shifting of seeding date can not be a fundamental countermeasure. In terms of the water management, there was no significant change in the precipitation pattern in future climate, so it was judged that it is not meaningful to change the water irrigation timing. However, it was thought that more water would be required in future climate than now for rice cultivation because of the increase of the evaporation rate at high temperature. Increasing the level of nitrogen fertilizer experiment was try to prevent the yield decline, but there was not enough effect on rice yield change. This result is thought to be due to losing nitrogen by increasing to ammonia volatilization of nitrogen fertilizer in high temperature, but more detailed study is required.
