Purpose& contents Development of synthesis method for asymmetric gold nanoparticles. Herein we plan to do a research that is a novel synthetic method for asymmetric nanostructures which can exhibit unique properties for optical, bio-sensing devices. Based on theoretical study and computer simulation, we plan to find optimal size and structure of asymmetric nanostructure and synthesis the nanostructure by controlling synthesis condition. This facile method for synthesizing unique asymmetric particles has great potential for paving the way for a new field in materials and bio-science.
Result In this study, we try to develop various asymmetric nanoparticles as a new metamaterial and conduct preliminary experiments on the possibility of mass synthesis. In order to synthesize nanoparticles for biomolecule detection, the following contents were carried out.. ㅇ The possibility of asymmetric nanoparticle synthesis technology was studied. It is known that the optical properties of symmetry-broken metal nanoparticles widely vary from those of the conventional nanomaterials. These materials, known as metamaterials, have a great potential for research on biomolecule diagnostics, high-wide-angle metamaterial lenses, high-density resonators, and ultra-small optical devices, so the need for that research is very essential. However, the method of producing asymmetric metal nanoparticles is extremely limited, and difficulty of mass production is another problem too. In this study, we developed a platform technology for mass production of various metamaterials. ㅇ Synthesized asymmetric nanoparticles were fused with nano-spectroscopic techniques to evaluate the possibility of multifunctional metamaterials with unique functions. Asymmetric nanoparticles have the potential to artificially control the physical properties of materials for electromagnetic waves or light waves as the shapes and sizes are regulated. By making the optimum shape and size of metamaterial suitable for nano-spectroscopy by controlling synthesis conditions, a possibility of experiment for size control and shape control was carried out in order to develop a metamaterial with a sensitivity that can be analyzed up to even a biomolecule.
Expected Contribution In the field of nano-bio-technology, application technology using asymmetric nanoparticles is anticipated to be maximized, and also it is expected to realize greatly advanced application technology of plasmon-based nanoparticles having excellent properties as a biological or diagnostic test probe. In terms of ensuring source technology, while maintaining the technology and unique characteristics of effective drug development through a basic understanding of the reaction and behavior of proteins in cells using metamaterial-based optical sensor technology, in consequence, it is expected to contribute to the development of original technology for the synthesis of unique materials through the surface treatment technology which is biocompatible and capable of immobilizing a specific ligand stably, and not only basic research but also original technology on the physical and chemical properties of various nanoparticles.
