Based on the Wetland Conservation Act article 4, the Intensive Survey on Wetland Protected Areas has been conducted to monitor the current status of ecological system every five years. In 2018, target wetlands were ‘Hwaemneup’,‘Ungok wetland’,‘Jangdo wetland’,‘Mulyeongari-Oreum wetland’and‘1100 Altitude wetland’wetland protected areas. As a result, a total of 830 species were surveyed from 484 species in each survey area through seven biological taxa(plant, benthic invertebrate, terrestrial insect, herptile, bird, mammal, plankton). Among them, 24 kinds of endangered wildlife (Class I: 3 species, Class II: 21 species) were classified.
In Hwaemneup, a total of 603 species including 5 species of endangered wildlife were surveyed. In particular, the natural and anthropogenic disturbance and destruction of the habitat has led to the spread of the drift, and as the diversity and abundance of species reflect this, the restoration of the hydrological health of the wetland has been a top priority.
In Ungok wetland, a total of 803 species including 12 species of endangered wildlife were surveyed. Especially, habitat restoration projects have increased the diversity and abundance of species reflecting the good conservation status of wetlands. Future monitoring and feedback on wetland ecosystems should be conducted to ensure sustainable wetland management.
In Jangdo wetland, a total of 667 species including 6 species of endangered wildlife were surveyed. Jangdo wetlands have undergone significant changes in vegetation diversity and structure as natural succession continues. Especially, the diversity and area of herbaceous plant communities decreased, and the distribution of woody plant communities such as willow trees increased. These changes in plant communities are expected to lead to changes in various areas of wetland ecosystems, including hydrological and hydrological systems, in the long term, and it is necessary to establish a systematic and scientific research plan.
In Mulyeongari-Oreum wetland, a total of 514 species including 7 species of endangered wildlife were surveyed. In 1100 Altitude wetland, a total of 484 species including 3 species of endangered wildlife were surveyed. Mulyeongari-Oreum wetland and 1100 Altitude wetland maintain similar physical environmental conditions as in 2013 and biodiversity is similar. However, in the long-term wetland management, there is a need for continued interest and response to the factors that accelerate wetland dryness. Both areas need to be actively prepared for the "wild boar" format, which can disturb the terrain and the repair-hydrological system. In addition, it has been shown that there is a need for continued interest in the soil contamination of the slope of the Mulyeongari-Oreum wetland and soil contamination of the 1100 Altitude wetland.
