The purpose this study was discuss and analyze effects of regular gate ball on body composition and functional fitness in elderly women. The subjects were thirty-eight elderly women, who take gate ball group(RPE 11~13, over 5years, 3~5times/week, 2hours/day), elderly educational program group(1time/months; sports dance, and Dan-joen breathing), and sedentary elderly group.Test items were body composition(%fat, LBM), and functional fitness with lower body strength(chair stand), upper body strength(2kg arm curl), aerobic endurance(6-min walk), lower body flexibility(chair sit-and-reach), upper body flexibility(back scratch), agility and dynamic balance(2.45m up-and-go).Date analyzing method was one-way ANOVA(Scheff) using SPSS 11.0.Results were as follows:1. In body composition, gate ball group was higher than other groups on LBM.2. In functional fitness, gate ball group and elderly educational program group were higher than common elderly group on lower and upper body strength, and gate ball group was higher than other groups on aerobic endurance, agility and dynamic balance.
