Mobile technologies become a familiar part of the lives of teachers and students in Korea today. Thanks to mobile technologies we take it for granted that we communicate with others and share information at any time and at any place. As access to wireless networks expands and ownership of mobile devices that can communicate with such network increases, the use of mobile devices to support language learning and teaching becomes even more common. The challenge for foreign language educators is how to understand and explore the best use of these technologies to support foreign language education. This paper introduces current status of MALL(Mobile-Assisted Language Learning); definitions and types of use, and on the basis of this, draws on recent projects and trials of the use of mobile devices like cell phones, PDAs, and MP3 players for foreign language learning and teaching purposes in order to explore the nature and future of mobile education.
