The disposal of MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) has induced serious environmental problems due to the significant amounts of waste. In this study, we investigate how to recycle mine residue as an adsorbent for removing VOCs. Firstly, the cylinder type adsorbents were prepared from mine residue, sludge and sawdust. The preparation process consisted ofsix steps as follows; material mixing, manufacture of adsorbents, drying, activation, washing and drying. Their physicochemical properties were investigated in terms of iodine adsorptivity, benzene adsorptivity, BET and SEM. Korea Standard leaching Test (KSLT) method is used to evaluate the environmental safety of adsorbent prepared. Iodine adsorptivity and benzene adsorptivity were 398.5 mg/g and 7.7%, respectively. BET surface area, total pore volume andpore size of adsorbent prepared after chemical activation were 176.95 m/g, 0.1173 cm³/g and 26.53 Å, respectively. The additive ratio and activation were most important parameters. According to the results, it is possible to prepare adsorbent by using waste resources, such as mine residue, sludge and sawdust.
