The main purpose of this study was to explore factors related to early screening for young children by examining characteristics of phonological processing for young children. Specifically, this study investigated the relationship among sub-factors of phonological processing and signifiant factors predicting early reading. Children(n=52) from Seoul city and Gyeonggi Province were assessed on early reading tests and phonological processing tests. The results indicate that there were significant and positive correlation coefficients among sub-factors of phonological processing. In addition, phonological awareness was the most significant predictor of early reading development. Implications for education and future research are discussed.
