『A-hi-won-ram(兒戱原覽)』 was compiled by townsmen Jang-hon(張混). After that, it was published by many writers in all parts of the country and has many different editions now. The encyclopedia is classified by categories and contains a variety of stories such as common senses in daily life, the origin of things and phenomena, mysteries, eccentric people in successive generations. So far, 『A-hi-won-ram(兒戱原覽)』 has been known as a elementary textbook used in a village school. However, there is no evidence for that. Nevertheless, most of previous studies defined 『A-hi-won-ram(兒戱原覽)』 as a elementary textbook without any objective verification and even gave the meaning to it as a modern type of elementary textbook. The purpose of this study is to reveal the limitation of previous studies and find the true aspects of 『A-hi-won-ram(兒戱原覽)』.According to this study, 『A-hi-won-ram(兒戱原覽)』 is educational encyclopedia for a beginner. Considering many chinese classical encyclopedia were published in 18C and 19C, we presume that 『A-hi-won-ram(兒戱原覽)』 could be compiled under that academic atmosphere. To support the study, classcification by categories and compilation of the data, these two attributes of a chinese classical encyclopedia are analyzed. We also find the correlation between 『A-hi-won-ram(兒戱原覽)』, 『Ji-bong-yu-seol(芝峯類說)』 written by Yi-Su-Kwang(李睟光), 『Song-nam-jab-ji(松南雜識)』 written by Jo-Jae-Sam(趙在三) to make this study more persuasive.『A-hi-won-ram(兒戱原覽)』 is obiviously a kind of chinese classical encyclopedia, but it was published for an educational elementary textbook and had a format of summary. To lay out a logical basis for this, we examined special features of 『A-hi-won-ram(兒戱原覽)』 to differ from other normal chinese classical encyclopedia.As a result, this study suggest a new viewpoint about 『A-hi-won-ram(兒戱原覽)』. It is not only an elementary textbook and also educational encyclopedia for beginners. Following this study, we expect that many aspects of 『A-hi-won-ram(兒戱原覽)』 should be examined by future scholars.
