This paper applies the doctrine of church offices of Herman Bavinck, the 20th Dutch reformed theologian to the Korean churches in order to reform and renew the Korean churches fallen into the situation that a sound Christian theology and Christian moral has become lost. Following the 16th century reformer John Calvin and his successors, Herman Bavinck has developed and systemized reformed theology, and clearly presented the doctrine of church ministries and church offices in the chapter 24 ‘Ministries and offices’ of Magnalia Dei (1931). First of all, Bavinck points out four sorts of ministries on the basis of the article 2 of ‘canon of Dordt’, that is (1) the ministry of preachers, (2) the ministry of teachers(doctors), (3) the ministry of presbyters, and (4) the ministry of deacons. According to Bavinck, these ministries are based on the example of Christ’s ministry, achieved in His threefold ministry of prophet, priest, and king. Secondly, Bavinck asserts that the ministry of all believers is ultimately aimed for the glory of God. Thirdly, based on John 14:12, Bavinck stresses that the threefold ministry of Christ achieved in His earthly ministry still continues through the ministry of the Church after Christ’s resurrection and ascension. In this respect, all the ministry of the Church is performed by ministers and workers, and believers, yet is eventually “the ministry of Christ Himself.” In terms of the ministry of the Word, the Church has three responsibilities. Firstly, the Church has duty to oversee and educate future ministers so that they might be able and faithful ministers and should to teach and proclaim the word of God. Secondly, the ministry of the word must be administered be means of the office. Thirdly, the ministry of the word should keep the word and explain the meaning. Concerning the ministry of sacraments, the Lord’s supper should be administered every worship on Sundays. Concerning the ministry of discipline, the discipline should be rightly performed for the sake of purity of Church. Concerning the ministry of mercy, it should be exercised for the recovery of catholicity which is fallen in Korea. In conclusion, for the renewal of Korean Church all ministers and believers should work instead of Christ before God and should serve other people by the power of the Holy Spirit for God’s glory.
