This article examines the immigration literature of Song Sang-Ok who is one of the representative writers of Korean Literature in America. The novels, written by Song Sang-ok himself after experiencing the United States, are a 『Sound』, a 『Three cities story』, a 『Gwanghwamun, a hamburger and a poppy flower』. In particular, the storytelling 『Three cities story』 has built an immigration narrative based on the spatial background of Masan, Seoul and Los Angeles, political and social events such as the Korean War, 5.16 military coup, October restoration, earthquake, and ‘1992 L.A. Riots’. His novel is unique as an immigration literature in that it covers not only migration but also return migration. In short, I tried to reconsider the immigrant motives by considering the political and social conditions of the immigrants in the novel and the inner desires of the immigrants’ personal desires, and to investigate the specificity of Song Sang-Ok literature.
