The aim of this study is to confirm the value of the pictorial painter which was technically changed to the new method of expression of the Western abstract expressionism by examining the works of painters of the western abstract expressionism which the calligraphy technique was utilized centering the times of 1950's to 1960's. It seems by the method of the resistance against material civilization and preoccupied idea, their mental state of yearning for the oriental culture of heterogeneity were facinated to the writing arts which is the traditional inheritance of the oriental, with the progress of cultural exchange along with the development of traffic.
