Crystallization processes were examined for zeolite A and ZSM-5 zeolite. Analysis and simulation of the crystallization process were performed by introducing appropriate crystallization models. Induction period, rate constant for linear growth, and the fraction of soluble species were deduced from experimental results. And the major factors affecting the crystallization rate were discussed. The crystallization curves of zeolite A could be simulated by adopting crystallization path model when the rate constant for linear growth is constant and the equilibrium between amorphous solid gel and soluble species were assumed. From the comparison of simulated curves with experimental results, the rate constant for linear growth could be determined. The crystallization rate increased with increase in temperature, due to the increase in the rate constant for linear growth, the fraction of soluble species increased with increase in the mole ratio of Na₂O/H₂O. The fraction of soluble species and the rate of nuclei formation were also changed with the mole ratio of SiO₂/Al₂O₃of reactant. The crystallization curves, pH change of reactant and the particle size distribution of final product in the crystallization of ZSM-5 zeolite were studied at 150∼195 ℃. With increase in temperature, the rate constant for linear growth and the fraction of the soluble species increased. The crystallization curves of zeolite A and ZSM-5 zeolite could be simulated well by using the crystallization models based on the crystallization path or constant zeolite growth from nuclei. The rate of nuclei formation can be deduced from simulated results and the finishing period of the crystal growth can be explained by decrease of the soluble species. From the best fits, the constants of linear growth for zeolite A were 0.07∼0.24 ㎛·min^(-1) and the rate constants of ZSM-5 zeolite were 0.01∼0.12 ㎛·min^(-1). Apparent activation energy for linear growth was 46 kJ mol^(-1) on the crystallization of zeolite A and 85 ∼ 88 kJ mol^(-1) on the crystallization of ZSM-5 zeolite.
