In order to study the growth response of Citrullus vulgaris and to assess the possibility of its clonal propagation, shoot tips, nodes, hypocotyl segments and immature embryos were cultured on MS medium supplemented with BA, NAA and 2,4-D in various combinations. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Shoot production and shoot growth from shoot tip culture was best on the media supplemented with BA at 0.5mg/l or 1.0mg/l. 2. Callus formation from the culture of hyocoty segments was good on the media supplemented with 1.omg/1 NAA singly or in combination with BA less than 0.5mg/l BA, or on the media supplemented with 0.5mg/l NAA and BA at 1.0mg/l, 2.0mg/l or 4.0mg/l. 3. Number of shoots developed from the nodes was highest they were cultured on the media containg BA only at 0.1mg/l or 0.5mg/l. 4. Shoot and root development from the culture of immature embtyos were best on the media supplemented with NAA only at 0.1mg/l or 0.5mg/l. Shoot development was also relatively good on the media containg BA only at 0.1mg/l. 5. Callus development from the embryos cultured was good on the media contiang 0.5mg/l NAA and 2.0mg/l BA, or 0.1mg/l NAA and 4.0mg/l BA. 6. When the shoots obtained by culturing shoot tips or nodes were grafted to gourd seedlings, the succes rate was 72.0% on the average.
