The general difference in the marital satisfaction was investigated by means of the male-female variations in (1)overall marital quality, (2) satisfaction with love, interest, communication, friendship, sexual gratification, cooperation at home, sharing time with the family and chieldren, attitude toward spouse's friends and treatment by in-laws, and (3)correlation between general evaluation of the merital quality and satisfaction with specific marital characteristics. This study was carried out 900 meal and female subjects(male:500 and female:400) who were ramdomly collected according to the family cycle reflecting their educational background as well as the age of their eldest children. Also a questionnaire survey was performed from February 5 to March 6, 1989. In addition, these questionnaires' satistical analysis was examined by Pearson's Correlation, T-Test, F-Test and Z-Score. The summarized result of this study is as follows. 1. It appeared that more male subjects were generally satisfied with their marriage than the female subjects(there was difference in the degree rather than type between their satisfactions). 2. The male subjects tended to highly evaluate their marital quality than did the female subjects regardless of the family cycle. 3. It was shown that more males were satisfied with the specific marital characteristics such as love, interest, communication, friendship, sexual gratification, cooperation at home and sharing time with the family and children than the females. 4. There was no remarkable difference in the marital quality and characteristics between the male and female subjects. Moreover, some factors including love, interdst, communication and friendship seemed to play an important role in deciding the marital quality. 5. The family cycle showed similar pattern of both male and female subjects regardless of its stages. The female subjects consideredthe sharing time with the family and children, and communication as an important factor in deciding the merital quality.
