The Objective of this study is to investigate the damping capacity and shape memory effect of FCC→HCP martensitic alloys such as Co-Ni, Co-Fe, Fe-Ru alloy and research the relationship of FCC→HCP transformation and damping capacity and shape memory effect. All FCC→HCP martensitic alloys as above have a damping capacity related to ε martensite which act in saturated magnetic field as much as non-magnetic field. As the ε martensite content increase, The damping capacities of these alloys are more increase. A subzero treated alloy shows high volume fraction of ε martensite and better damping capacity but thermal cycled alloy doesn't show any specific change of damping capacity though ε content increase by thermal cycling. The alloy with a single α' phase shows a poor damping capacity, whereas the alloy containing ε martensite possesses a high damping capacity and exhibits a prominent damping dependence on strain amplitude in same alloy system. The damping capacity of Fe-25%Ru alloy is raised continuously with increasing ε martensite content in low(below 3×10^(-4)) strain amplitude. This means that the stacking fault boundaries inside ε martensite plates act as damping sources. In high(above 4×10^(-4)) strain amplitude, the damping capacity of Fe-25%Ru alloy represents a peak value around 42% of ε martensite. The trend of damping capacity is very similar to the change in relative area of phase interface with ε martensite volume fraction, indicating that the migration of phase interfaces acts as an additional damping mechanism in high strain amplitude. The origin of major damping source is semi-reversible FCC→HCP martensitic transformation as well as stacking fault boundary movement in ε martensite plate. Shape memory effect (SME) increased proportional to the pre-existing ε martensite content, suggesting that the SME of the FCC→HCP martensitic alloys is related to coalescence of the pre-existing e plates. Thermal cycling increased the ε martensite content, and the SME became greater with an increase in number of thermal cycles. The Fe-25%Ru alloy also showed a shape recovery to some extent, but the degree was relatively lower than those of Fe-Mn-Si based shape memory alloys. The lower strength of matrix, the presence of the α' martensite at room temperature, and the relatively higher stacking fault energy in Fe-25%Ru alloy are thought to be responsible for the lower shape memory effect. The martensitic transformation kinetics of the Co-Ni alloys can be expressed as Y = 1 exp[-0.00526(Ms 25)], where Y is the volume fraction of e martensite and Ms is the starting temperature of martensitic transformation.
