Influences of Shoe Shape and Gait Characteristics on Feet Discomforts According to Adult Women's Foot Type원문보기

The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationships of shoe shape and gait characteristics with Women's feet type and their foot discomfort. Also, the insoles on the basis of this analysis were used for the experiment in order to draw the parameters which reduce women's foot discomfort. The sample was consist of 216 female adults who were selected with my convenience from residing women in and around Seoul, Korea. I surveyed their shoe shape, gait characteristics, and foot discomfort by use of the questionnaire. Also, I measured the 13 items of their foot characteristics such as weight, height, foot length, foot width, instep, etc. First, the result of the χ^2 analysis about the relationships between the age, weight, height and occupation with their wearing shoe shape such as hill height, toe shape and wearing time shows that the older women are, the lower hill height they prefer, and the taller the higher. Getting older, their height of top side of foot decreases and their medial foot angle increases. Classifying their foot pattern, the number of "standard type" is the most while the 20s' women have relatively more of "broad and short type" other than the other ages. In the classification of toes, most women of the sample have "square type" whereas "Egyptian type" is founded more in the 30s~40s. In terms of the height of arch, it becomes lower as the age or weight increases, namely, flat-foot. The analysis of women's gait characteristics shows that the 20s tend to walk with noise or to drag their feet and the old women with heavy weight walk leaning toward the front. According to the analysis of foot pressure when walking, the grounding times gets shorter and the value of maximum force with the ground surface is heightened as their age gets older. Also, as their weight is heavier, the value of maximum power, maximum pressure and the ground surface increases in the case of flat-foot. According to the factor analysis of their foot discomfort, it is divided into 3 factors: the discomfort of whole body (factor 1), the discomfort of foot sole (factor 2), and the discomfort of toes (factor 3). And the foot part of discomfort is more frequent in the order of the big toe, 2·3 metatarsal bones, and the little toe. As the age gets older, the discomfort of foot sole and toes are reported more frequently, and, particularly, more student and office employees have the discomfort of whole body while more sales women and housewives have the discomfort of foot sole. In terms of the types, the higher the hill height, the more the discomfort of foot sole with wearing the sharp toe. As the wearing time is longer, the discomfort of foot sole increases. Being related to the foot patterns, the broad and short type has more of the discomfort of foot sole, the flat foot feel more discomfort from the entire body and the sole. Walking with leaning toward the front, the discomfort on toes and sole increases. The 16 items of 15 factors are selected from the foot related variables that effect on the discomfort of foot as above. As the result of verification with the group analysis, it is grouped into 6. The variables that effect the discomfort, of foot in 6 groups show the differences in age, instep height, medial foot angle, foot index, height of arch, discomfort of sole, grounding time, maximum strength, maximum pressure. The insoles are produced with the above parameters in order to resolve the foot discomforts and perform the subjective examination and function test before and after wearing them, and the following conclusions were obtained. The subjective examination shows that the insoles reduce the discomforts in all groups. The discomfort is reduced in the fatigue of toes, sole, entire foot, and such effects are conspicuous in Group 2 and 6. However, it is shown to have the discomfort not resolved on the ankle pain, foot hill, sole arch area that these areas are proven to be difficult part to resolve through the insole. In the functional testing by the low pressure on foot, the maximum pressure was reduced after wearing it and it was conspicuous in Group 2 and 6 in particular. Group 3 and 5 were shown not to reduced for the low pressure on foot variable. The maximum pressure of low pressure on foot analysis was the variable that proved the effect of insole. Accordingly, it is the area that is proven to minimize the discomfort of foot when walking, and the maximum pressure is very important variable in insole. In sum, age, medial foot angle, height of arch, discomfort of sole and maximum pressure are the parameters for insole production.
