Macrocyclic complexes have a distinct thermodynamic, kinetic and electrochemical properties. Generally, Ni(I) or Ni(III) complexes with an abnormal oxidation state, can be a model complex of metalloenzyme such as urease, methyl coenzyme M reductase, hydrogenase and acetyl coenzyme A synthase which take part in redox process. Especially, macrocyclic complexes with pendant arms in which containing donor atoms are interesting because they are the model complexes of metalloenzyme which show apical effect in biological process, and, furthermore, they can be the precursors of polymetallic complexes resulting from the coordination of donor atoms to other metal ions. In this work, Ni(II) complexes of L¹~L⁴ were prepared. The details of the syntheses, characterization and spectrochemical and electrochemical properties of the [NiL³]^2+ are studied. Also, thermodynamic behaviors of the complexes in aqueous solution were elucidated. Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of L³ formed SAM (Self-Assembled Monolayer), which reveals the possibility making a molecular layer on the solid substrate.
