Heavy metals and organic/inorganic compounds that discharged by industry and human activity infiltrated to ground, thus act as cause of destroy the ecosystem balance and accumulation of contaminants. Heavy metal, especially, act as continuous contaminant source due to strong sorption to soil particle. Electrokinetic (EK) technology is emerging method for remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil and groundwater. Because EK technique is only method for the remediation of contaminated low permeable soils which cannot easily be treated by Pump and Treat or In Situ Soil Flushing. In this study, firstly, traditional EK remediation tests were performed with pH. And then EK extraction and immobilization test were performed with soil condition and used mine tailing and MSWIF was used as enhancing methods for the remediation of lead contaminated soil. For the extraction of lead by EK, mine tailing buffer zone was installed in the cathode region to prevent pH jump by inherent ions in mine tailing. And for the immobilization of lead by EK, MSWIF which containing phosphorus that highly affinity to lead and stable to pH variation was installed to cathode region as buffer zone. Experimental results showed that initial soil pH value with depth significantly affected to contaminant transport and electrochemical parameters although showed similar engineering and chemical properties. And also, mine tailing enhanced method increased extraction rate and MSWIF enhanced method satisfied TCLP regulation of US EPA in 60% region. Therefore, it is verified that waste materials can be used as enhancement of EK remediation.
