Impressionistic Music, which was affected by Impressionistic Art and Symbolic Poetry of France, was created by Claude Achille Debussy (1862-1918) and Maurice Joseph Ravel (1875-1937) more firmly developed the form and structure. This treatise deals with Ravel's chamber music, String Quartet in F(1903-1903) in detail, and is studied in order to find out the characteristic of Ravel's musical diction as well as to inquire Impressionistic Music. Ravel began to compose 'String Quartet in F' December, 1902, completed in April 1903, and presented his master, Gabriel Foure (1845-1924). In the way of tone, using traditional tone and line harmoniously, he made the tone vague. Externally, each movement shows the tone of F Major, a minor, Gb Major, F Major. In the harmony, he showed the characteristic using a chromatic scale by continuous use of ninth and eleventh chord except insoluble seventh chord and combining the melody with the interval and gamut, and prominently used the empty fifth musical interval omitting the third tone.
