Recently there has been considerable interest in augmented reality which mixes 2D real video from a camera with computergenerated graphical objects. Camera calibration and registration are fundamental requirements for overlaying 3D virtual objects with the video. To implement the augmented reality on an uncalibrated video sequence, we exploit a novel algorithm that uses the geometrical constraints in a scene. Without using pre-known pattern or user-specifying fiducial points related with base coordinate axes in previous works, however, we use the geometric constraints such as parallelism and orthogonality which easily can be seen in human-made scene. These constraints lead to very simple and geometrically intuitive solution to the camera calibration and registration. Our method is performed without relying on any changes about the camera parameters, and uses the Kalman filtering algorithm to reduce the drift error to register the virtual objects with the successive video frames. Finally, an augmented reality system based on our algorithm has been designed and implemented to allow the user to easily insert virtual objects into the video.
