단량체로는 n-butyl acrylate(BA), acrylonitrile(AN), butyl methacrylate(BMA), glycidyl methacrylate(GMA) 및 acrylic acid(AA)를 사용하였다. BA와 AN을 사용하여 점착제를 제조한 결과 BA와 AN이 60 g(75 wt%), 20 g(25 wt%)일 때 점착물성이 적합하였으며, 내수성 향상을 위해 BMA를 도입하였다.

Recently, much interest has been focused on the development of water-borne pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs), because solvent-borne PSAs cause various environmental problems. Acrylic PSAs reveal excellent weather and oil resistances, furthermore, the physical properties (cohesion, adhesion, etc.) of the acrylic PSAs can be easily controlled by a proper selection of monomers and functional monomers which can cause crosslinking. This study was aimed for the preparation of acrylic protective PSAs using emulsion polymerization. Monomers used were n-butyl acrylate (BA), acrylonitrile (AN), butyl methacrylate (BMA), glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), and acrylic acid (AA). Emulsifiers used were sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and polyoxyethylene(30) lauryl ether (PLE), which are an anionic emulsifier and a nonionic emulsifier, respectively. Potassium persulfate (KPS) was used as an initiator and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was used as a stabilizer. Emulsion polymerization was carried out in a semi-batch reactor at 70℃ and agitation speed was 200 rpm. Tensile strength, extension, peel strength, viscosity, and solid content of the synthesized PSAs were examined. In addition, water resistance, heat resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance and smoke resistance were also examined. The adhesives prepared with BA:AN = 60:20 (in weight ratio) satisfied the standard for automobiles in terms of extension and peel strength. However, water resistance, heat resistance and tensile strength were unsatisfied. Therefore, to improve physical properties of the adhesives, BMA was introduced in the adhesives polymerization. As a result, when the concentration of BMA was in a range of 18∼23 wt% (with 55 g of BA and 30 g of AN), the prepared adhesives satisfied the standard for automobiles in terms of peel strength and water resistance. Functional monomers, GMA and AA, have also been introduced to crosslink the PSAs. As a result, when GMA and AA were 0.03 moles respectively, the adhesion properties and various above mentioned resistances of the prepared PSAs were satisfied the standard for automobiles.
